<![CDATA[ Latest from GamesRadar+ in Entertainment ]]> https://www.gamesradar.com Mon, 10 Feb 2025 01:43:36 +0000 en <![CDATA[ New Thunderbolts trailer sees the MCU's most beloved antiheroes step in for the Avengers and save the world ]]>

Fresh off the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer earlier this week, Marvel has also unveiled a new look at Thunderbolts*.

We've seen a couple of first looks at the Marvel Phase 5 movie already, but this one is the most action-packed yet. The trailer, released at the 2025 Super Bowl, can be watched above - and it looks like the MCU's most beloved antiheroes are stepping in for the Avengers.

In the brief clip, Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine tells a courtroom that the Avengers "aren't coming" and that it's up to the Thunderbolts, consisting of a plethora of MCU antiheroes who have definitely committed some war crimes, to save the world. "None of us can fly," Yelena says. "So we all just punch and shoot?"

The emotional trailer sees the team become discouraged by their pasts, only to be reassured that they do have some goodness in them - and that they are, in fact, the right people for the job - which seems to be defeating the mysterious Sentry. There's plenty of ass-kicking action, explosions, car flips - and there's still an asterisk next to the film's title for some reason.

The premise sees a team brought together by Valentina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) for a special government mission. Alongside Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, the movie also brings back David Harbour's Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell's John Walker, Olga Kurylenko's Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman's Bob (or Sentry if we're being honest), and Hannah John-Kamen's Ava Starr.

Star Stan has been vocal about how great he thinks Pugh is in the movie, which she previously told GamesRadar+ she was very flattered by. "I was very, very chuffed that he said that about me," she told us at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. "Also, it's so kind when people that you look up to and respect and love working with say wonderful things about you because it just makes you fill yourself with confidence and makes you feel that the thing you appreciate is also appreciating you and it's a lovely feeling. And he's been in the MCU for such a long time so to hear that from him is very special."

Thunderbolts* is due to hit theaters on May 2, just a few months after Captain America: Brave New World. They're not the only upcoming superhero movies either as The Fantastic Four: First Steps then arrives in July.

<![CDATA[ Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning trailer sees Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt embark on his most dangerous mission yet ]]>

The new trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is here and, forget the Super Bowl, the real action can be found in what's shaping up to be Ethan Hunt's final Mission.

In the brief trailer, which can be viewed above, Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt embarks on what appears to be his final mission - complete with explosions, underwater stunts, and a scene where Cruise does that famous drop-down move from the first movie. "Everything you are, everything you've done, has come to this," the voice-over says. We also see Cruise very impressively hang off a biplane that's speeding through the air. Needless to say, the stakes are high and the stunts are more dangerous than ever.

Even the air of finality surrounding The Final Reckoning hasn't slowed the action franchise or Cruise down, however.

"We had a small screening and someone said, 'I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack.' And I thought, 'I guess we did something right," director Christopher McQuarrie told Empire of an unnamed sequence.

Meanwhile, the Final Reckoning's callback to Mission: Impossible 3 might elicit shock of a very different kind, one that could majorly hint at how the curtain-closer acts as a love letter to the series' past. In the first Final Reckoning trailer, a canister that appears to contain the Rabbit's Foot MacGuffin from the J.J. Abrams-directed threequel can be glimpsed.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, stars Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Vanessa Kirby, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and Pom Klementieff. It's set to hit cinemas on May 23, 2025.

<![CDATA[ Marvel fans are loving this deep-cut musical Easter egg in the Fantastic Four trailer which is a hidden tribute to the comics ]]> This week, Marvel took a brief step back into the swinging '60s with its brand-new Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer. This upcoming installment of the MCU will finally introduce Marvel's First Family to this 17-year-long franchise, and while the preview divided some fans, there was still plenty to enjoy. Besides the appearance of Galactus in all his comic book-accurate glory, one big takeaway was the Fantastic Four giving the nod to The Fab Four, aka The Beatles, courtesy of some awe-inspiring set design.

After seeing the silhouette of the Devourer of Worlds and The Thing looking heartbroken about his rocky new look, one shot saw the titular team standing together on a TV show set with arrows from every direction pointed at them. This band of heroes wasn't the first to walk on such a stage, though, as it's a direct homage to The Beatles' appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show back in 1965, only four years after the Fantastic Four's comic book debut.

It's a fitting wink to an equally iconic group who appeared in Marvel comics themselves. Besides getting their own comic book in 1978, The Beatles had plenty of run-ins with the Fantastic Four over the years. Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross' Marvels comic run saw Ben Grimm/The Thing and Johnny Storm/The Human Torch stop a robbery and cross paths with the band. Also, a group resembling The Beatles attended the wedding of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic and Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman. Well, it might've been them, as it was also revealed in later years that The Beatles in Earth-616 were hijacked by Skrulls, who continued the band's career while concealing their alien identities. Imagine.

There is no confirmation on whether The Beatles will appear in the upcoming film because while it might look like a familiar era, it's potentially not the dimension we know. As already spotted in the trailer in a blink-or-you-'ll-miss-it moment, Pedro Pascal's Reed is hard at work on a portal system that could bridge the gap between this future retro-looking world and the one with angry red presidents and wall-crawling menaces. We'll see how he makes it over when Fantastic Four: First Steps storms into theatres on July 25. Before that, check out the 12 easter eggs we spotted in the latest preview here.

<![CDATA[ Superman star Rachel Brosnahan reveals how James Gunn's DC movie is "so true to the comics" ]]> What would Superman really be without Lois Lane? It's a question we thankfully won't need to consider, given that James Gunn has found his perfect pair to play them in his upcoming film. As David Corenswet dons the cape and signature hair curl, Rachel Brosnahan will be left to look up in the sky as the Daily Planet's top reporter and she's excited for what's in store.

Speaking to Deadline about the upcoming film, Brosnahan assures that there's no better time than now for the Man of Tomorrow to make his return today. “We’re living in a moment of so much turmoil, both here, abroad,” explained the former star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. “There’s a lot of challenges for everybody in all different pockets of the world right now. And for a lot of the complaints that people have sometimes about superhero movies, at their core, they’re about the goodness of people and how good we can be to each other, how the pursuit of truth and justice really are the American way, and that courage and hope can carry us through."

So far, what's been left on show has given fans very little to complain about (excluding that viral clip of Supes flying that even Gunn himself had to address). Corenswet's Kal-El looks to be tapping into the classic iteration of the hero that the former Guardians of the Galaxy director revealed will bring a balance of the Silver Age comic book style for modern-age storytelling. Meanwhile, Brosnahan assured, "It’s a hopeful superhero movie, which I feel like is so true to the comics. So, I’m excited for audiences to see it and hopefully have some fun and enjoy the ride with us.”

But of course, just like Corenswet will be following in the superpowered footsteps of stars like Henry Cavill, Brandon Routh, and the legendary Christopher Reeve from director Richard Donner's iconic iteration, his co-star will have the same issue following the legendary Lois' that came before her. “I mean, I grew up loving the Donner Superman movies, the Chris Reeve Superman movies, Margot Kidder. I mean, she’s just a dream. So, I was definitely intimidated to step into this role but excited to pick up the mantle."

We'll see how Brosnahan handles staying in her Lane when Superman flies into theatres on July 11. For everything else DC-related, be sure to check out our guide of movies and shows from that universe here.

<![CDATA[ Shogun season 2 scripts are now complete, as production on the hit show aims to being this fall ]]> It's ridiculous how good the first season of Hulu's epic series, Shōgun, actually was. With a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, along with nabbing an incredible 18 Emmys, not to mention four Golden Globe wins, now we're one step closer to finding out if they can recapture that magic for another round. News from the show's co-creator, Justin Marks, reveals that scripts for season 2 are done, dusted, and just waiting to get elegant splashes of blood sprayed across them this year.

While attending the Critics Choice Awards this weekend, Marks explained to Deadline where he and the team are in the creative process, and it all sounds incredibly promising. “We’re coming out of the writers room now. We’re also done with the 10 episodes, and we have our finale now. That’s allowing us to start figuring out how we’re going to shoot this. But we’re very excited about the plan,” Marks revealed. “I think the thing to take away, more than anything, is how, I hope people are going to be surprised with some of the big ideas as soon as the first episode of part two. So, we’ll start there and see where it takes us for future stories. But we’re really excited about it, especially for [Hiroyuki Sanada].”

Speaking of Lord Toranaga himself, Sanada – who walked away with Best Actor in a Drama Series at the event – revealed what was on his wishlist for his character and the show that will be getting a second and third season. “In Season 1, [Toranaga] didn’t become a Shōgun yet. So, I’d like to see him become the leader of Japan. That is my hope.”

Who might help or hinder his character from getting there has yet to be confirmed, but Sanada gave a brief rundown on who will be getting an audience with Lord Toranaga. “We are aiming for the fall of this year, and the writers’ room is working so hard now. We’re going to have half [of the Season 1] cast remaining, and then half new cast coming," Sanada told Variety. "We are finding the best crew for next season now, so I’m excited.” He's not the only one.

<![CDATA[ J.K. Simmons confirms that work has already started on Invincible season 4: "We actually have dipped our toes" ]]> Invincible has only just re-entered our atmosphere with its third season (after obtaining a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, we might add). However, according to the man behind the show's most feared mustaches, production has already begun on its next chapter.

J.K. Simmons, who voices tortured Viltrumite Nolan Grayson, aka Omni-Man, let slip to Collider that work on season 4 for Invincible is in its early stages already. "Yeah, we actually have dipped our toes. Or at least I have into the next season," confessed Simmons. "And I'm looking forward to... I don't know when in the next coming months, but looking forward to getting back in the studio again."

The uninitiated might wonder just how much Simmons' stoic heel-turning hero will be involved in the next season of Invincible, given his current predicament of being held captive in a Viltrumite prison in season 3 of Invincible. Since season 2, he's been left to stew over his past deeds alongside Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen), making for more television gold that Simmons admits he has enjoyed bringing to life.

"Well, it's unexpected, I hope. And I'm always loath to even get close to any spoilers, but I loved the whole season, the whole third season, and, exploring the relationship between Omni-Man and Allen the Alien that, you know, based on the first two seasons, you know, there was a continuing surprise to me." Together, the two are proving to be the buddy story some fans might not have anticipated, but it sounds like Simmons is having a ball recording. "And also getting to play scenes with Seth Rogen was, you know, even though we were never in the room at the same time, I did get to respond to what Seth had already laid down a few times."

You can see how this loveable pair continues to get on as Invincible continues on Thursdays on Prime Video. Also, to get an idea of what's in store, check out what creator Robert Kirkman had to say about characters returning to Invincible season 3 here.

<![CDATA[ Marvel star Anthony Mackie thinks he only has 10 more years playing Captain America: "A 60-year-old Captain America, that'll hurt" ]]> Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson is back reporting for duty this week in Captain America: Brave New World, but according to the man himself, he thinks he'll only be able to carry the iconic shield for another ten years.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Mackie revealed his math behind keeping the mantle of the shield-chucking hero and believes a decade would just about do it. "The 10 years start on the 14th. That's it. After the 14th I got a 10-year run. I'm not trying to be a 60-year-old Captain America. That'll hurt."

Mackie, 46, officially assumed the role of Captain in the finale of Falcon and the Winter Soldier after Steve handed Sam the shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Even then, he was unsure what to make of it, initially predicting that Sam wouldn't make it out of Marvel's massive comic book movie alive.

The new chapter of Sam's career as the star-spangled hero will see him unravel a conspiracy that involves a decorated war hero and the newly appointed president, Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford). That's not the only threat he'll be facing, either. Joining in on the action is Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder, along with Tim Blake Nelson, who will be reprising his role as Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader, after we last saw him in The Incredible Hulk back in 2008.

With such a huge hit list to tackle during his first filmic mission as Cap, Mackie was still enthusiastic about his alter-ego's ability to do this all day, just like his predecessor—most specifically, on the big screen, as opposed to the small. "I think there's something in the idea of Captain America being, people love the nature of these movies, the attitude, the realness, the groundedness of these movies," explained Mackie. "It just works in a cinematic base that I think movies, Captain America deserves to be on the big screen because people love Captain America and that's where they want to see him."

Captain America: Brave New World touches down in theatres on February 14. For every other upcoming MCU chapter, check out our guide to every upcoming Marvel movie and TV show here.

<![CDATA[ First The Night Agent season 3 teaser takes us behind the scenes on the hit Netflix show, confirming that it's in production ]]> You don't have to remember a random set of words to get an update on the third season of The Night Agent – Netflix has thankfully just released a juicy morsel themselves.

Following another successful and explosive second season, the streaming service revealed on Twitter that season 3 is in production and will have our top agent, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), once again sprinting down well-lit streets and telling whoever is unfortunate enough to be in the passenger's seat of whatever car he's in to "hang on."

The footage, shot in Istanbul, shows Basso prepping for fight scenes and a chase sequence that we can guarantee will leave his ride with a few scuff marks and probably a dented wing mirror. This secret snippet also comes after Basso told Games Radar+ in an exclusive interview that the first episode had already been shot and that it housed what he deemed "the strongest opening of all seasons."

Understandably, though, that's all the information we're getting regarding Sutherland's next operation. When we last left him, Peter was tasked with a mission by his handler, Catherine Weaver (Amanda Warren), that was so secret, so hush-hush, that there aren't records of it in the Night Action program. In fact, we're expecting red dots to appear on our screens any time now just by typing this.

But while Peter might be off the radar, one person that's off his is his former love interest, Rose (Luciane Buchanan), who decided to call it day in regards to their relationship. For all we know, that chapter is seemingly closed in Sutherland's story (we hope not), and that's exactly how Basso likes it.

"What I love about this show is that it never ends on a cliffhanger that is expecting you to come back. It closes the storylines introduced in that season then at the very end, introduces a new question. But it's not a leave you hanging note, you don't feel like things weren't resolved. I feel really good about where season 2 ends and how season 3 picks up, Shawn [Ryan, showrunner] and the writers pay it off well." To get the full debrief on how season 2 ended, head to our ending explained here.

<![CDATA[ One star is "heartbroken" that they can't return for Twisted Metal season 2 due to scheduling conflicts, teasing that the upcoming instalment is "going to be nuts" ]]> Good video game adaptations – what a concept, right? Besides Fallout, The Last of Us, and the Sonic movies, there's also a surprise hit that everyone pumped their brakes for in the case of Twisted Metal. Debuting its first season in 2023 on Peacock, the show was met with a positive reception from critics and fans alike. So it's great to see that a second season has completed filming. What's not great to see is that one of its stars, Jason Mantzoukas, won't be among those returning.

Starring Anthony Mackie as a delivery guy driving across a scorched USA with all manner of crazed characters on the road, Jason Mantzoukas appeared in the first season to wreck his route a little, playing Preacher. Unfortunately, as revealed by Mantzoukas while attending the Invincible Season 3 premiere (via Collider), schedule issues stopped him from hitting the road again.

"I'm not. And there's no reason, there's no juice to that, it's just that I wasn't able to do it," explained Mantzoukas. "But I know the show is going to be dynamite because I know a bunch of people on it, and I was heartbroken that I couldn't go because they very much wanted me to, and I very much wanted to do it, but it just didn't work out schedule-wise, so I got to know a lot of what is coming, and I think that's going to be nuts."

In addition to Anthony Mackie returning, season 2 will also feature Stephanie Beatriz reprising her role as Quiet and Will Arnett voicing Sweet Tooth, the unhinged clown who will be physically portrayed on screen by WWE star Samoa Joe.

Joining them for the ride this time will also be the new addition of Barry and Superman star Anthony Carrigan as Calypso. He'll bring more rage to the road as the iconic video game character and villain at the head of the death races the franchise is known for but was absent in the first season. <![CDATA[ Nosferatu director Robert Eggers says that his upcoming werewolf horror movie is "the darkest thing" he's "ever written" ]]> If Robert Eggers' claims are true, the werewolf movie he's working on could make Count Orlok look like the Count from Sesame Street. While attending a Q&A session at the Lincoln Center, the director of Nosferatu revealed a little bit more about what he had in store for his next meeting with one of cinema's most iconic monsters, which should do enough to have fans howling.

Caught by a fan on Twitter, Eggers teased, "It's a medieval werewolf movie. It's also the darkest thing I've ever written, by far." Considering this is coming from the man who turned Bill Skarsgård into a character that could give Pennywise a run for his money, we're unsure if we even want to believe him.

It's proving challenging to sniff many details out regarding Werwulf. What's known so far is that it's set in the 16th century and, according to Eggers' go-to cinematographer, Jarin Blaschke, will create a style for the creature that has never been caught on film. "I can’t tell you a thing," promised Blaschke. "But it’s something that’s not been done before that I’m aware of or not done in this way. So [we’re] just going to test it and see if it works."

Regarding the script, Eggers has also enlisted the talents of the Icelandic poet Sjón, who co-wrote his chilling Viking epic, The Northman. It's not the only project they are working on together, as it was recently announced that Eggers is heading into the more family-friendly territory of a long-awaited sequel to Labyrinth. We can only hope both will presumably star Willem Dafoe, but only one might have him dancing to David Bowie's Magic Dance, which sounds so good it's scary. Alternatively, you can get lost in our great pitch for a dark Labyrinth sequel here.

<![CDATA[ Star of scrapped Coyote vs. Acme movie says it makes his "blood boil" that the film was canceled: "I would understand if the thing sucked, but it's really good" ]]> When Warner Bros. said, "That's all, folks," to Coyote vs. Acme, the internet bounced back, demanding that the live-action Looney Tunes movie finally see its day on the big screen. Unfortunately, the studio didn't budge from shelving the project to take a $30 million tax write-off, and now one of the film's stars, Nick Forte, has spoken out about the decision.

“My thoughts were that it’s fucking bullshit,” the actor told MovieWeb, backing the film that the rest of the world will never see. “It is such a delightful movie. It deserves so much better than it got. I can’t tell you possibly why the decision was made to not release it. But it makes my blood boil.”

In the film, Forte plays a down-on-his-luck human attorney who partners up with Wile E. Coyote for a lawsuit of the century. Tired of ACME products failing to do their job in capturing his longtime target, the Road Runner, Wile E. attempts to file a case against the mega corporation for all his years of trauma and presumably the bulk buying of sandwich board signs that have "HELP!" on them. The film also starred John Cena and Lana Condor.

Pleased to hear that the world hadn't forgotten about this now archived animation, Forte said, “Thank you for asking me about it because I like talking about the movie because I don’t want people to forget what [Warner Bros.] did to this,” The whole experience certainly sounds like a bittersweet one that he's still understandably sore over. “I appreciate them letting us make it, but don’t let us make this thing that we fall in love with and then not show it. I would understand if the thing sucked, but it’s really good. Maybe, somehow, we get to see it at some point. I hope people do. I was really proud of it.”

Coyote vs. Acme wasn't the only film to sink to the depths of the Warner Bros. water tower. Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt, which promised some festive frights, also got tucked away, all in a business deal Forte confesses isn't his territory.

“Look, when it comes to Hollywood business stuff, I don’t know shit about shit. Even when a movie tests very well (like ours), there’s no guarantee that it’s gonna be a hit,” he added. “And at the end of the day, the people who paid for this movie can obviously do whatever they want with it. It doesn’t mean I have to like it (I fucking hate it). Or agree with it. And it doesn’t mean that this movie is anything less than magnificent.” We believe you, Forte. It's just a shame that your poor Coyote pal's run of bad luck didn't stop with his very own film. Meep-meep. <![CDATA[ Martin Scorsese reveals that he's a huge fan of Nosferatu and director Robert Eggers too: "Anything this guy does, amazing" ]]> It's official. Robert Eggers is a bloody good director after legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese praised his recent trip to Transylvania with Nosferatu.

Speaking to TCM’s Dave Karger about his career and the films, both past and present, that have inspired him, Scorsese discussed his love for horror. Karger asked the Goodfellas director if he had seen Eggers' latest vampire flick, echoing much of what critics and audiences have already said about the movie. "It’s amazing. Anything this guy does, amazing. And that's one [film] you don’t do much after seeing. You’re still in the world. You’re in Transylvania, and it’s really, [laughs] whoa. Man, he’s something."

Over the past few years, Scorsese has been quick to back the genre that he's never really spent much time in. Films like Cape Fear, Bringing Out the Dead, and Shutter Island have all had thin strands of horror running through their veins, but it seems he prefers to let others scare folks in the theater aisles. One notable fright fest that caught his attention in the last decade was Hereditary, which Scorsese described in a Q&A back in 2019 as "Disturbing, there's no doubt, it's a horror film in that way. But it's more than that. It reminds me of the best of horror films."

Hopefully, after Eggers' encounter with Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård), Scorsese will be first in line to see the Nosferatu director's next horror film, Werwulf. Set in the 16th century, the film promises to be another pulse-pounding take on a classic monster, which Eggers' go-to cinematographer Jarin Blaschke has described as something "that’s not been done before." Well, maybe. But we might wait for Scorsese to verify that, seeing as he's watched just about everything. Speaking of the man himself, check out our ranking of the 10 best Scorsese movies here. Yeah, we're talking to you.

<![CDATA[ Cobra Kai stars talk fan theories and share the incredible prank one Karate Kid legacy actor pulled off on set: "I believed him pretty much the whole season" ]]> Cobra Kai star Mary Mouser admits to reading fan theories - and one led to an onset prank involving Peyton List and one of the franchise's legacy actors.

"I entertain myself a lot and then I end up telling [the cast] about this stuff and they all just sit there and go, okay. But I'm like, did you guys see that?" Mouser tells GamesRadar+. "I feel like the most fan theories that came out were when we were doing the season four tournament. There were a lot of theories to like what people, who people thought was gonna win, who was fighting for what dojo to what degree. And I think the most fun part for sure is when they get it almost right. When they get it almost right. They do it a lot with Tory's dad."

In the series, which takes place in the Karate Kid universe, Mouser plays Sam LaRusso, the daughter of Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and his wife Amanda (Courtney Henggeler). List plays Tory, who, follows a similar arc to Johnny Lawrence and becomes corrupted by Kreese - the sensei who negatively influences and effectively traumatizes Johnny in The Karate Kid 2. It's ultimately Terry Silver, the antagonist of The Karate Kid 3 who also becomes a sensei at Cobra Kai, who makes Tory feel used and unintentionally pushes her to leave the dojo and join Miyagi-Do with Sam.

"Yeah, they pranked me on set," List reveals. "Thomas, who plays Terry Silver, he told me, oh yeah, 'They're writing it that I'm your father [in season four]. And so I believed him for pretty much that whole season. I thought that was really farfetched, but Thomas Ian Griffith is] so believable when he commits to a bit - he’s so genuine."

<![CDATA[ Common Side Effects, from the studio behind Scavengers Reign, takes aim at the mundane evils of healthcare with wild body horror and goofy quirks ]]> For anyone that doesn't have to personally experience it, the labyrinthine nightmare that is the American healthcare industry is difficult to describe. In part because of the aforementioned complexity, and in part because it just… really feels like nothing should exist in the way that it does. The new animated show Common Side Effects, created by Joe Bennett and Steve Hely, explores this dichotomy while also asking: what happens when one singular person attempts to change all of that?

Enter Marshall, an eccentric and (one might argue) genius that's discovered a mushroom that can heal basically everything. The problem is that everyone else – DEA agents, pharmaceutical companies, global conglomerates, and even rival scientists – seem to be invested in him not actually sharing that discovery with the world.

Common cause

"Like everybody in the world, or at least the United States, we've had encounters with the healthcare system and insurance," says Hely when asked by GamesRadar+ about the genesis of the series, "and it's like going up against a gigantic sci-fi tentacle monster that's hard to deal with and hard to get to the humanity of, but even that system is made up of people that are motivated by their little problems and struggles."

"Little problems" here might be relative given that Marshall and Frances, an old high school lab partner he runs into who ends up helping out, that just so happens to be the assistant to a big pharma CEO, also have to deal with a goodly amount of trained killers that aren't afraid to maim and murder. If you've seen Scavengers Reign, which Bennett also co-created, start at that level and tone it down just a couple of pegs and you'll have a good idea of the amount of body horror and gore to expect.

It's not all horrible and dark, mind. Common Side Effects can often be extremely funny, sometimes while also being horribly dark but not always. The DEA agents like to lip sync and dance, a pharma CEO referred to as "the devil's idiot butler" obsessed with an exploitative mobile game, Marshall is often paranoid for good reason but sometimes he can freak out over nothing to comedic effect, and there's a shot that lingers on a man playing a fishing game in VR that very much does not look like he's playing a fishing game in VR.

"Even the people that are like masters of the universe are often like goofballs," says Hely, "and they have to eat and shit the way everybody else does, and they often have strange little quirks and bizarre interests. From the President on down, you're seeing people who are just odd, weird, sometimes funny, sometimes a little scary, but human, and we try to put that into all of our characters."

But even beyond the creators' control, there's an inherent darkness to this all thanks to the simple fact that UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was murdered on December 4, 2024. Common Side Effects, which again deals with the healthcare industry and all of its inherent evils, started airing on February 2, 2025.

"They did move around the show a little bit," says Hely when asked if there was a possibility the whole thing got canned in the wake of Thompson's death, "and there was a press release that was going to come out on the day of the shooting [...] and so they actually pushed the press release, but that led it to go to a week later, when it was in the news again because they'd arrested the alleged shooter."

"It definitely seems like we're plugged into some themes, and we're hitting a nerve, and tying into an electrical streak in the culture," continues Hely. "But I think that just came out of us being interested in things that are bothering a lot of people, and questions that a lot of people have about how we have this weird healthcare system, why we spend so much money on it, and yet we seem to be sicker than ever. What the possibilities are to find a healthier way to live. All that is stuff a lot of people are thinking about."

"In addition to that, I would say that we've been working on this project for five to six years," adds Bennett, "and I would say that just making adult animation and trying to make a serialized story always feels like a risk, and so there's always concern that we're going to get canned for that reason alone."

"Credit to Adult Swim for taking a chance on something that's a little electric," Hely concludes.

Common Side Effects airs on Adult Swim every Sunday with episodes streaming on Max the following Monday. If you're already watching, there's probably another show you'd like in our ranking of the best shows to watch on Max right now.

<![CDATA[ The Cobra Kai cast was never worried about skepticism from diehard Karate Kid fans: “The franchise as a whole has been completely behind us” ]]> Cobra Kai stars Mary Mouser and Gianni DeCenzo say they weren't worried at all about initial negative reception to the Karate Kid revival series.

"I didn't even realize that it was gonna be like, it was being scrutinized until people saw it and they were like, 'Oh my God, I thought it was gonna be trash' ," DeCenzo tells GamesRadar+. "It's like, oh, glad it wasn't. I would've been way more scared going into the first season if I knew, but we passed the trash barrier. We did it. We're not trash. Are you proud now, Mom? "

The series, which picks up some 40 years after the first Karate Kid film, sees longtime rivals Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) start dojos of their own and train a new generation of martial artists. DeCenzo plays Demetri Alexopoulos, tech genius and best friend of nerd-turned-bully-turned-hero Eli 'Hawk' Moskowitz (Jacob Bertrand). Mouser plays Sam LaRusso, Daniel's daughter.

The 2010 Karate Kid reboot starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan received mixed reviews, and was the last entry in the franchise before Cobra Kai popped up as a YouTube RED series in 2018. Netflix quickly scooped up the show and turned it into one of the streaming giant's biggest hits. Since its inception, the series has included countless cameos from actors from and has made sure to stay true to the initial Karate Kid trilogy.

"I definitely feel like the franchise, as a whole, has been completely behind us. It's true, though. I don't think we were ever in a negative position in which people voiced to us that they thought wished us bad or wished us ill or thought it was going to blow up in our faces," Mouser explains. "But I have loved that since we've kind of gotten to prove our medal, we've never lost that core fan base. We've gotten to grow and bring people to the original franchise. I'm a fan girl myself for a lot of different things and have been a part of fandoms where people aren't that welcoming of new fans where they're like, 'No, you weren't here for day one,' or, 'You don't know the hardships as a fan of blah blah blah.' Right? We don't have that, which has been wonderful because it means that we've gotten to have like just open arms from us to the fandom as it grows and from the fandom to us, which I'm really grateful for."

<![CDATA[ Sigourney Weaver hopes James Cameron watches upcoming sci-fi movie The Gorge because Anya Taylor-Joy’s heroine reminds her of a certain Avatar character ]]> Sigourney Weaver is no stranger to playing a sci-fi heroine (hey Ripley), but as Anya Taylor-Joy takes that role in the duo’s upcoming movie The Gorge, the Alien star says Taylor-Joy needed no guidance at all.

"Anya Taylor-Joy needs no tips for me to play anything," Weaver tells GamesRadar+. "Drasa, as played by Anya is particularly unique. And she just goes for it. She just plays the hell out of it, and has, I think, great fun doing it."

Weaver adds that Taylor-Joy’s highly skilled and fearless Lithuanian sniper character "is really a badass." So much so, that she reminds her of a strong Na’vi woman from James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. "I hope Jim sees The Gorge because I think he'll appreciate the character of Drasa a lot," says Weaver. "You know, he's been so ahead of his time creating these amazing characters like Neytiri. I think Drasa is very much in that tradition."

Weaver starred as Kiri in Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water, and looks to be returning for further movies in the franchise too including Avatar 3. Who knows, maybe Taylor-Joy could be the next star to join Cameron’s hit fantasy franchise. She is most definitely capable enough, and no one knows that more than Weaver who adds, "I've admired her work since I saw her in The Witch and then in Queens Gambit. I think there's really nothing she can do."

Starring Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller, the Gorge follows two highly-trained operatives appointed to guard opposite watchtowers overlooking a misty and mysterious gorge. But as the pair protect the world from the evil that lurks beneath, the two start to form a bond. The genre-bending horror slash sci-fi slash romance movie co-stars Weaver as a no-nonsense woman in charge of sending snipers to the gorge.

The Gorge premieres globally on Apple TV Plus on Friday, February 14, 2025. For more, check out our list of the best movies on Apple TV Plus, or keep up with upcoming horror movies heading your way.

<![CDATA[ Ralph Macchio talks “paying the legacy forward” in the new Karate Kid movie: “It’s been the gift that keeps on giving” ]]> Ralph Macchio might be saying goodbye to Cobra Kai, but he's ready for the next era of the Karate Kid franchise.

"Throughout the Cobra Kai series, there have been those mentor moments, those parenting moments. So paying the legacy forward is kind of part of what Daniel LaRusso does now as an adult and will do in the Karate Kid Legends film when that comes out, the end of May," Macchio tells GamesRadar+. "Really excited about that other chapter within the grand universe of sharing stories. But for Cobra Kai, where my focus is now, it was about landing that plane in that, you know, big, winning way and I'm super proud of that."

The series, which takes place some 40 years later after the first Karate Kid film, hit YouTube Red in 2018 before getting picked up by Netflix and turned into one of the streaming giant's biggest hits. Macchio reprises his role as Daniel LaRusso, one of pop culture's most beloved underdogs, with William Zabka returning as bully-turned-hero Johnny Lawrence. In the show, the two decades-long enemies run two competing karate dojos - and are training the next generation of teen competitors.

The last five episodes of Cobra Kai are set to air mid-February, putting an end to Daniel and Johnny's six-season adventure. A new Karate Kid movie, however, is set to arrive this May - which sees Daniel living in Okinawa some three years after the events of Cobra Kai.

In the new movie, Daniel once again takes on the role of sensei, this time joining Jackie Chan - who reprises his role from the Jaden Smith-starring Karate Kid reboot - in training the next karate kid (Ben Wang, who was cast via a worldwide talent search). In a way, Macchio is stepping into the shoes of Mr. Miyagi, played by the late Pat Morita, who Macchio says would've been immensely proud of Cobra Kai and where the franchise is today.

"I think he would've been first in line with and bought popcorn for everybody. I really do. His character - it's always been super important to me that it was woven into the Cobra Kai series. That was day one when this was pitched to me. I said, I need that to not be forgotten because without that, none of this exists, meaning that character of Miyagi and that performance by him. So I enjoy honoring those who are no longer with us that helped, create this franchise."

Continues Macchio: "And I feel, I guess I would say a responsibility, but I take pride in making sure, or at least letting my voice be heard, of the importance of that in honor of them. I'd like to believe he'd be proud of me for that part."

Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 hits Netflix on February 13. Karate Kid Legends hits theaters on May 30. For more, check out our lists of the best Netflix movies and the best Netflix shows to stream right now.

<![CDATA[ Sigourney Weaver was "delighted" to join the Star Wars franchise but says Grogu was the whole reason she signed on for The Mandalorian & Grogu: "He's a little badass" ]]> Sigourney Weaver says she never really thought about joining the Star Wars franchise, but when she was offered a role in the upcoming movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, there was one teeny tiny thing that made her sign on: Baby Yoda.

"I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie," Weaver tells GamesRadar+. "And he's a little badass too. It's going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he's grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series."

As Weaver did not appear in The Mandalorian series, we still don't know for sure who her character is, although it has been reported that Weaver is playing a New Republic Colonel Bishop in the film. When asked for more on her mysterious role, Weaver replies, "I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority. And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens."

With so much experience working on big sci-fi franchises like Alien and Avatar, it is surprising that Weaver didn't join the galaxy far, far away sooner. "I admire [Star Wars], but I don't sit around wishing I was in another franchise, because I've been so lucky to be in some wonderful ones," Weaver adds. "But at the time, when I was offered it, I was delighted. I'm a great fan of John Favreau. I was already a great fan of The Mandalorian."

Directed and written by Jon Favreau, the movie welcomes back Pedro Pascal as bounty hunter Din Djarin who embarks on an exciting new adventure with his apprentice Grogu. The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theatres on May 2026.

But before Weaver makes her big Star Wars debut, the Ghostbusters actor stars in Scott Derrickson’s genre-bending horror slash romance movie The Gorge. The movie follows two highly-trained operatives (Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy) as they are appointed to guard opposite watchtowers overlooking a misty and mysterious gorge, "protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within," reads the synopsis from Apple TV Plus.

<![CDATA[ Poor Things' Christopher Abbott on his new thriller with Barry Keoghan that's "like a mafia movie with sheep" ]]> Wolf Man star Christopher Abbott swaps monsters for personal demons in new thriller Bring Them Down. He stars alongside Barry Keoghan in the sheep farming yarn, who he says is "as alive when you're working with him on set as he is on screen" when GamesRadar+ sits down with him over Zoom.

Abbott plays Michael, a sheep farmer who leads a lonely life in rural Ireland with only his ailing, ageing father and the burden of responsibility for a tragic accident that happened two decades prior for company. His quiet life is suddenly disrupted, however, by a minor dispute over land access with neighboring farmer Gary (Paul Ready) and his son Jack (Keoghan) that quickly snowballs out of everyone's control.

The film is the debut feature from writer-director Christopher Andrews, who Abbott praises for "taking this, on paper, very small world and small story, but adding these bigger allegories and terrible themes to it."

Big Screen Spotlight

Shining a light on the under-the-radar theatrical releases that you need to know about, with a new article every Friday

"To me, the movie is almost biblical," he continues. "It's like the Parable for the Good Shepherd, and I personally feel that it's strangely almost like a mafia movie. With sheep." The title of the movie refers to the "bringing down" of livestock from higher ground to lower pastures, but also plays into the reactive nature of the two farmers' feud.

Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbott in Bring Them Down

The sheep in the film provide plenty of opportunity for metaphor, and Abbot expands on the New Testament comparisons: he thinks "the idea of the shepherd leaving one away from his flock, going to get the one sheep that he left behind, but then leaving the rest" can also be applied to the family dynamics in the film. "There's a lot to play with there."

As for the mafia parallels, there may not be any organized crime in Bring Them Down, but there's plenty of violence in the film against both man and beast that's presented in a frighteningly casual and matter-of-fact way. Combined with an oppressive, seemingly inevitable expectation of masculinity that weighs heavily on both Michael and Jack from the patriarchal figures in their lives, the comparison isn't actually that left field.

It's not just the movie's themes but its form, too, as Abbott thinks the film's structure – which abruptly and unexpectedly switches its narrative POV from Michael to Jack halfway through the runtime – is also reminiscent of a mob flick. "You're following this one character and you learn just enough about what's going on to have a fair amount of questions, and then it switches," he explains. "And then some of those [questions] get answered, until this sort of final crescendo. I really liked it. I thought it was exciting."

There's no clear hero or villain in the movie and no apparent winner or loser as the altercation between Michael and Jack plays out, and the futility of the situation plays into the tragedy of the film. "It's not an obvious thing why the characters are pitted against each other. It just sort of happens," Abbott explains. "I love in movies where a small event changes the course of a character's life, and the reason why Michael is pitted against Barry's character is sort of silly.

"It's really just a series of misunderstandings and mistakes [then] all of a sudden this mayhem starts happening. If they'd just gotten together and chatted for an hour about everything, probably a lot of things could get resolved, but it doesn't. But that's the drama of it. They're enemies, but neither of the characters even knows why, and that's what's interesting."

Bring Them Down is out now in UK cinemas and US theaters. For more on what to watch, check out the rest of our Big Screen Spotlight series.

<![CDATA[ Fallout's Walton Goggins isn't the only one who racked up a huge bill shooting The White Lotus season 3, but star Michelle Monaghan blames her kids: "How many Kit-Kats can you eat?" ]]> The White Lotus season 3 is nearly here and, this time around, we visit beautiful Thailand as yet another group of guests have quite the vacation.

With the entire cast and crew staying in a luxury hotel in a gorgeous country, it's no surprise that it's an incredible filming experience. However, it turns out that it is quite the expensive one too if you aren't careful...

Last year Fallout star Walton Goggins, who plays the grumbling Rick this season, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he "started laughing" as soon as he received his hotel bill due to the sheer size of it.

And he isn't the only one, as co-star Michelle Monaghan, who portrays actress Jaclyn, tells GamesRadar+: "I was right behind him. My kids came to visit me and I blame them! I was like, 'how many Kit-Kats can you eat? I mean, seriously!'"

Despite the fact Monaghan's kids put plenty of charges on her hotel bill, the star says that it was totally worth it as she has never had a filming experience quite like it. As she explains, that's due to the intimate nature of the shoot as well as the fact that they got a chance to explore Thailand.

Monaghan explains: "This is obviously such a unique experience and way of working, and it's what makes The White Lotus The White Lotus, you really are in The White Lotus bubble. And it was so special to be in that bubble, in such a beautiful country and with such a wonderful cast. I mean, we all got along.

"We had a lot of fun together, but because it was such a big cast as well, we had a lot of downtime. So we got to explore a lot of Thailand and really immerse ourselves in the culture. The overall experience was so immersive, unlike anything I've ever creatively experienced."

The White Lotus season 3 begins on Max on February 16 in the US and February 17 in the UK on Sky. For more, check out our guides to the best HBO shows and the best HBO movies.

<![CDATA[ Severance star Adam Scott to lead new film from director of one of the highest-rated horror movies of 2024 ]]> Adam Scott may be busy facing off against shady office types in hit Apple TV Plus series Severance right now, but he'll soon have a bigger threat to fight in writer-director Damian McCarthy's new horror movie: witches.

Having recently signed up for the lead role, as revealed by Variety, Scott is gearing up to play a horror novelist in supernatural chiller Hokum; a Stephen King-type who travels to rural Ireland to scatter his parents' ashes – oblivious to the fact that the inn he's booked to stay at is supposedly haunted by an ancient enchantress. Peter Coonan (Bad Sisters) and David Wilmot (Bodkin) round out the supporting cast.

Filming is set to kick off on location in late February, marking the fifth collaboration between Image Nation and Spooky Pictures. Their previous outings include creepy thriller Watcher and found footage flick Late Night with the Devil. Tailored Films, the production company behind The Apprentice and Bring Them Down, is also on board.

"With Adam's talent and charisma and Damian’s unique direction, this is another opportunity for us to push boundaries in the horror genre and continue to make our mark in the international market," producer Ben Ross said in a statement.

Oddity

Over the last five years, McCarthy has made a name for himself in the genre space, having wowed audiences with Caveat (2020) and 2024's Oddity, which debuted to a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Both films explore psychological trauma and isolation as they see their protagonists – an amnesiac driver and a blind medium – hole up somewhere remote, only to become convinced they're sharing their surroundings with the conduit of a malevolent entity; a toy rabbit and wooden mannequin, respectively. Though McCarthy's works tend to have a twist or a sting in their tail...

While he's perhaps best known for his more comedic roles in Step Brothers and Parks and Recreation, Scott is no stranger to horror, either, having appeared in titles such as Piranha 3D, Krampus, and Little Evil. His second-ever role, in fact, was in Hellraiser: Bloodline back in 1996.

Hokum has yet to spell out a release date, but we'll be sure to keep you posted. For now, check out our picks of the most exciting upcoming horror movies heading our way.

<![CDATA[ Avatar star Sam Worthington called his James Bond audition "awful" but fans disagree after it leaks online ]]> Sam Worthington was among the stars auditioning for James Bond back in 2005, and his screen test has now been released online. Shared by a YouTube channel alongside Henry Cavill's ill-fated Bond audition and The Boys actor Antony Starr's take on 007, the new video sees Worthington tackle some dialogue from Goldeneye.

In the seven-minute clip, the Avatar actor gives his version of iconic lines like "Martini, shaken not stirred" and "Bond, James Bond" as well as doing a few run-throughs of the same scene. The audition was for the part of the super spy in Casino Royale, when a new Bond took on the mantle from Pierce Brosnan. The role ultimately went to Daniel Craig.

Worthington has previously spoken about auditioning for the role, revealing that he thinks it wasn't his best work. Per ComicBook.com, Worthington recounted the experience on the Australian radio show Fitzy and Wippa back in 2023.

"I did go for Bond. I went and did the audition with Martin Campbell, who ended up directing Casino Royale," he recalled. "You walk in, there’s the girl in the bed, you charm her. I could get the killer of Bond down. I just couldn’t get the charm. I couldn’t charm her. The suit didn’t fit, man."

Worthington then added: "I tried to do a British accent. I did say to them I wanted to wear the white tuxedo like Roger Moore. I wanted to bring back kung fu chops, and they looked at me like I was crazy." He then pointed out: "It was awful. I sounded like Dick Van Dyke from Mary Poppins. I remember Martin going, 'Just do your normal voice, it’s all cool, man.'"

Fans of the star disagree though, with plenty of positive comments on the YouTube video. One wrote: "Really good actually… The best out of them all on here from 2005" while another pointed out: "He has a natural charisma and interesting body language." A third added: "Everyone starts somewhere. Worthington may not have qualified as Bond, but he does demonstrate a lot of good potential."

The same YouTube channel, Ron South, has released screentests for Cavill, Starr, and Pride and Prejudice actor Rupert Friend. According to his YouTube description, he found the tapes in a recycling bin at a movie studio.

<![CDATA[ No one knows for sure if Final Reckoning is Tom Cruise's last ever Mission: Impossible movie, but the director teases the title is "appropriate" ]]> Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning could be Tom Cruise's final outing as Ethan Hunt, though director Christopher McQuarrie is tight-lipped on the possibility for now.

"It is, I hope, the satisfying conclusion to a 30-year story arc," he told Empire magazine. "I'm pretty confident that people are going to feel that the title was appropriate."

Cruise was similarly coy. "You gotta see the movie," he said. "It's a hard thing for me to discuss at the moment, because it really is something that you have to experience."

That's not a clear answer either way, then, but it certainly sounds like this could be Cruise's final time in the Mission: Impossible franchise. "Final" is very final, after all.

One thing we do know, though, is that if Cruise does step away, it's unlikely that his spot would be filled by his Top Gun: Maverick co-star Glen Powell. "My mom would never let me do that," Powell joked of the possibility. "That’s the worst gig in town, everybody knows that. That’s a death trap."

It does indeed sound like the stunts will be huge, too. "I have just finished shooting, I've got one day of pick ups to do. I've seen some of it. It's bananas. It's absolutely bananas," Simon Pegg said of the movie last year. "What he does in this one, it boggles the mind. I think this one is the best one ever. And I'm not just saying that because it's like, 'Oh you've got to say it.'"

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning releases on May 23, 2025. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the most exciting upcoming movies for everything else the year has in store.

<![CDATA[ Anthony Mackie requested one major Captain America costume change before Brave New World because it was his "worst nightmare" ]]> Captain America actor Anthony Mackie has revealed he had one costume request for Marvel in Brave New World.

As mentioned in an interview with IGN, Mackie asked to ditch the cowl first glimpsed during the series finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

"I told them I was never wearing that shit again, dude," Mackie said. "That was hard – with the heat, the sweat, the fogged-up glasses. It was impossible… it was my worst nightmare."

From what we've seen so far of Captain America: Brave New World, Mackie's Sam Wilson is instead wearing a more traditional Captain America get-up, complete with the Falcon-esque flourish of red boots and red goggles. Crucially, the neck brace-style cowl is nowhere to be found.

He'll need all the free movement he can get, too, seeing as how the new Cap is seemingly taking on Harrison Ford's Red Hulk, Tim Blake Nelson's The Leader, and Giancarlo Esposito's Sidewinder.

Speaking to GamesRadar+ ahead of Brave New World's release, Mackie expressed his excitement at finally stepping into the role of Captain America on the big screen – over half-a-decade after his character was bestowed the iconic shield by Chris Evans' Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame.

"You have to think about how much work and how much time went into this. They told me I was gonna be Captain America five years ago. So I've just been biding my time waiting for this moment," Mackie said.

He continued, "But the excitement of it comes with the idea of, Marvel gave me the best cast, they gave me the best script, they gave me the best crew, they gave me the best director to make the best movie we could make. And I'm just really proud of it. I'm proud of the fact that it turned out the way it did, and it's entertaining, and it's heartfelt, and it's fun, and it's everything a Marvel movie is supposed to be."

Captain America: Brave New World flies into theaters on February 14. For more from the MCU, check out our guides on the Marvel timeline and how to watch the Marvel movies in order.

<![CDATA[ The studio behind Your Name is making a new Pokemon anime movie, and the synopsis is already breaking my heart ]]> A new Pokemon anime movie called Dragonite and the Postman is coming out soon, and it sounds seriously adorable. Fans won't have to wait long either as the film is heading to YouTube on Pokemon Day, this February 27.

It's in some seriously good hands too as it's created by the studio behind Makoto Shinkai's Your Name, Weathering With You, and Suzume, CoMix Wave Films. The premise is extremely moving too, as it follows a young girl named Hana who admires a Dragonite postman. One day, she finds letter without an address on it, and sets out on an adventure to find its sender.

Per Crunchyroll, the synopsis reads "Upon finding that the sender is a young boy named Rio, she learns that he wrote the letter for his father's birthday, since he's currently away in the Kanto region for work. Problem is, it's already his father's birthday…" You're breaking my heart, guys. It seems it will be a race against time to deliver the message, and I can't wait to see what's sure to be a wholesome journey.

Alongside the news, we also got a closer look at the gorgeous animation as the Dragonite flies over the horizon. The official Poke Times Twitter also teased more information on February 13, could we be getting a trailer soon?

For more on all things Pokemon, check out our guide on how to watch Pokemon in order. We've also got more animated guides, including a round-up of the best anime and all the new anime that should be on your radar in 2025.

<![CDATA[ Marvel’s Armor Wars gets a confusing update, suggesting it might not be happening any time soon: "It doesn't mean we’ll never make it" ]]> Bad news Marvel fans, it looks like we might have to wait a little longer for the upcoming movie Armor Wars as MCU producer Nate Moore has given a confusing update on the project.

"You know, that’s not my project, to be honest. But, I do know, as Marvel [Studios] continues to go through this phase, we want to make sure whatever we’re making is awesome. So that means we had to slow down some things that were on the front burner,” said Moore in an interview with Collider.

It sounds like Armor Wars may be one of those projects the studio has slowed down on, but this doesn't mean the movie has been scrapped. "It doesn't mean we'll never make it,” added Moore. “But it does mean we just have to be a little bit more considered so that every time out, audiences are guaranteed quality."

Armor Wars, starring Iron Man's Don Cheadle, was originally announced as a TV show but changed to a movie back in 2022. The film is said to pick up after Secret Invasion, following Cheadle's War Machine and "what happens when Tony Stark's tech falls into the wrong hands." The project was officially re-announced at D23 with Cheadle in attendance, but news of the project has been pretty thin on the ground since.

As for Moore, the producer is fresh off of working on the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World, and was set to serve as producer on Ryan Coolgler’s Black Panther 3. However, in December 2024, Moore stated he was leaving Marvel after 14 years, which may be why Armor Wars is "not my project" anymore as the producer told Collider.

Armor Wars does not yet have an official release date. For more, check out our guide on how to watch Marvel movies in order, and keep up with upcoming Marvel movies heading your way.

<![CDATA[ The Vision TV show has added a new cast member, and Marvel fans are convinced it's the new Tommy ]]> Marvel's upcoming Vision TV show has added a new cast member, and everyone is convinced he's playing Tommy.

According to Deadline, The Franchise star Ruaridh Mollica has joined the Vision show in a series regular role. While details are thin on the ground at the moment, his character is said to be called Tucker.

Marvel fans, though, think they know who he's really playing: Wanda and Vision's son, Tommy Maximoff.

"Ruaridh Mollica is playing a character named 'Tucker' in Vision…. But like…. Come on…. That's a Tommy right?" says one person.

"Ruaridh Mollica has been cast in the upcoming Vision series! Could this be our Tommy Shepard/Speed?" questions someone else.

"Ladies and gents, we have our Tommy Maximoff PS: Not confirmed, but it seems like the best guess," predicts another fan.

"He's gotta be Tommy or Vin and I’m leaning Tommy," guesses another fan. Vin is another synthezoid created by Vision when he made himself a family.

In Agatha All Along, Billy Maximoff returned, this time played by Joe Locke. It wouldn't be a huge stretch to assume Tommy could show up in the Vision show, then, given how Billy seemingly ended the Disney Plus show on the search for his brother, but that remains to be seen for now.

Paul Bettany will be returning as Vision in the show, alongside James Spader as Ultron. "I've been watching," Bettany said previously of Agatha All Along. "I love it. I love it, and I'm so proud of Jac Schaeffer. And I am going to watch again because there's so much for me to learn moving forward into my contribution."

Next up for Marvel is Captain America: Brave New World, which hits theaters this February 14. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows for everything else the MCU has in store.

<![CDATA[ Before he landed that Buffy cameo, Pedro Pascal lied that he was going to be in Twin Peaks (and that he was Christian Bale, too) ]]> Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hugely popular titles or franchises that have one thing in common: Pedro Pascal. There was a time, though, when the actor was struggling to book roles early on in his career.

Pascal has made no secret of that over the years, recalling how his close friend Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) even let him sleep on her couch when he was auditioning for gigs. Now, in a new interview with Babygirl director Halina Reijn for The A24 podcast, he's confessed to regularly fibbing about jobs that he'd booked in order to seem more successful at the start of his career.

"I think I read something that you had said, you said that you saw Annie when you were a kid and you felt jealous of the girl, and that was when you understood [that you wanted to be on stage]," he said. "I had the same experience watching these children in [Steven] Spielberg movies. I was like, 'I'm jealous of Elliot. I wanna meet the alien.'

"I remember reading a story about how Spielberg met Heather O'Rourke, who played Carol Anne in Poltergeist in a park, and I was like, 'What park?!'" Pascal laughed. "I was so obsessed I started to lie. I remember trying to convince somebody that I was Christian Bale on the poster of Empire of the Sun. And speaking of our beloved David Lynch, I told everyone that I was gonna be in Twin Peaks before it premiered on ABC. Those lies always caught up to me by the way, in a terrible way."

Fortunately, just a few years later, Pascal got a break with a bit-part role in '90s supernatural show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "I want [Sarah Michelle Gellar] to know that I remember every moment of shooting that episode, as brief as it was. She was such a kind scene partner, and we had the best time," he previously told Access Hollywood. "It was a super big deal."

Next up for him is The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the next movie in the MCU's Multiverse Saga, in which he plays Reed Richards AKA Mr. Fantastic opposite Joseph Quinn's Johnny Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach's Ben Grimm, and Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm.

It releases on July 25. While we wait, check out our guide to all the fun Easter eggs we spotted in the Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer, or our breakdown of how to watch the Marvel movies in order.

<![CDATA[ The White Lotus star couldn't believe that HBO killed off fan-favorite Tanya in season 2: "There's no way, it's Jennifer f*cking Coolidge" ]]> When Jennifer Coolidge's fan-favorite character Tanya fell overboard from a yacht in the most dramatic manner possible during The White Lotus season 2 finale, fans were shocked that the show had killed her – and in such a cruel way too.

As it turns out we weren't the only ones surprised by Tanya's death as her co-star Natasha Rothwell, who plays spa manager Belinda in the first and third seasons of the hit series, was just as taken aback by it.

Speaking to GamesRadar+, Rothwell reveals that she had no idea what fate awaited Tanya, so couldn't believe her eyes upon watching that jaw-dropping conclusion. As she tells us: "I watched right along with everyone else. That Sunday, I was seated, I watched, screamed, texted Jennifer, and was like, 'What the fuck?' Because it took me by surprise. I was like, 'There's no way it's Jennifer fucking Coolidge.' Like, why would they, like… but leave it to HBO to Game of Thrones her. I was just like, there she goes."

Of course, things didn't end well between Belinda and Tanya in season 1. As you may recall, Tanya offered to fund Belinda's dream of opening up her very own wellness center, only to turn her back on the spa therapist. A heartbroken Belinda then discards her business plan, now disillusioned with life.

After not appearing in the second season, Belinda is back on her feet in The White Lotus season 3, which sees her visiting the chain's Thailand resort for a training program. As Rothwell says, this is the first big step Belinda has taken since Tanya crushed her dreams, with this season exploring the long-term impact that had on her.

Rothwell reveals: "Some time has happened between the seasons, but I think you do get to see someone who's a little gun shy in terms of taking risks. I think her coming to Thailand is one of the first big risks that she's taken since then, putting herself out there to advance her career on her own terms. She's not relying on other people anymore to make her dreams come true.

"She's going to try to figure out how to do it herself, which is great, but it also shows that maybe she's afraid to lean on other people because of that hurt. And so you see the sort of trickle down consequences of vulnerability. For her, daring to do this trip and to be there as a guest, I think is a little bit of a triumph. I think that she's daring to be seen and step out from the shadows. She gets to be a guest and flirt with what it's like to be amongst the people that hurt her in season 1."

As Rothwell says, this time around Belinda is staying as a guest at The White Lotus, which helps switch things up. And not only that, but she has brought her son Zion (Nicholas Duvernay) along with her for the ride.

For the star, she was most excited to explore her character as a mother this time around revealing: "It was really interesting to play around with my own relationship to my mother. He's [Zion] older so there's this shift that happens where you're not just the kid and you have to relate to your parents differently. It was interesting to explore those personal experiences from the other side. It definitely gave me more empathy for my mom."

<![CDATA[ One moment in the Fantastic Four trailer may have accidentally spoiled a major Marvel rumor that won't go away: Sue Storm is pregnant ]]> One Marvel fan has somehow spotted a massive Sue Storm-related spoiler hiding in the background of the new Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer.

At the 54-second mark, our eyes should be focusing on Johnny Storm getting his flame on and shooting off into the sky. Instead, @davjolie on Twitter scanned the background and noticed Vanessa Kirby's Sue Storm being helped away and clutching her stomach. See for yourself below.

If we didn't know any better, that looks like a pregnant woman being taken out of harm's way. If you skip back to 45 seconds, there's also a moment of Reed Richards and Sue Storm in space that looks suspiciously like a birthing scene.

Honestly, we're convinced. After all, there have long been whispers that Marvel's First Family would hear the pitter-patter of baby feet in the MCU. The hosts at Good Morning America even asked Kirby about being a mother in First Steps. The reply? "You'll have to wait and see." Curious.

And, of course, the comics have pulled Fantastic Four's children Franklin and Valeria into increased prominence over the past decade.

With all roads leading to Avengers: Secret Wars – an event that Franklin ultimately holds major sway over in Jonathan Hickman's 2015 comic run of the same name – it would make sense for those characters to be introduced sooner rather than later. We just assumed Marvel would be better at hiding it in the very first trailer.

The Fantastic Four, if you believe the tin-foil hat theorists out there (of which I am proudly a member), is also hiding more in its trailer. Exhibit A: a curiously-obscured shot that could be holding back the reveal of Reed Richards's stretching powers. Exhibit B: A Morse code message that spells out 'RADIATION' during the Fantastic Four trailer launch. What else are they hiding?

Fantastic Four, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon-Moss Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, hits cinemas on July 25, 2025.

<![CDATA[ A zombie Jennifer Coolidge in The White Lotus season 4? The cast reveal their hopes for the upcoming season of the hit HBO show ]]> Even though The White Lotus season 3 hasn't hit our screens yet, a fourth chapter is already in the works – not that we're complaining, the show is just too good!

With the next season taking us to gorgeous Thailand, the question is – where will The White Lotus season 4 be set? And not only that, who will be in the cast? Even more so, which character will return?

In an interview last month, GamesRadar+ put those questions to the cast of season 3, who pitched us their ideas for the next instalment of the hit HBO show.

Michelle Monaghan, who stars as actress Jaclyn in season 3, agrees with fans that setting it at a ski resort would be great fun – but she wants to leave the casting decisions with showrunner Mike White as he always nails it.

As Monaghan tells us: "That would be an interesting choice – to switch it up from the beach to winter. That would be amazing, it would be beautiful. Imagine like all the great European ski resorts. I would sign up for that.

"But with the cast... Mike just has such a knack for casting the unexpected and everybody is so perfect in their roles, and what they're able to convey and exude. Every single season was perfectly cast. I couldn't think of one person. I'm gonna leave all that to Mike."

Natasha Rothwell and Jennifer Coolidge in The White Lotus

Meanwhile Natasha Rothwell, who reprises her character of spa therapist Belinda from season 1, does think that whilst a ski resort would be "really cool", there are other brilliant ideas. For the star, she would "love to see it take place on the continent like Africa, South Africa, Morocco, or Egypt". It's certainly a different vibe but one we would be very much seated for!

This time around it is Rothwell's character who returns, after Jennifer Coolidge reprised her role of Tanya in season 2. So, who would Rothwell like to see come back for the fourth season? Despite the fact that Coolidge's character Tanya is dead, Rothwell doesn't see that being an issue: "Bring Jennifer back as a zombie! I want to play with her again, she's so fun to act with!"

Pivoting to a more serious tone – although zombie Coolidge would be fun – Rothwell would like to see other characters from season 1 return. And of course, if she survives The White Lotus season 3, the star would be more than happy to reprise her role of Belinda once more too.

As she concludes: "I think there's so many cool people that could come back. I mean, Jake Lacy [the privileged Shane], Sydney Sweeney [college student Olivia]... it would be really cool wherever it is to see what happens. But I don't even know if I'm gonna be in it. You know what I mean? I have to survive season 3!"

<![CDATA[ Magic: The Gathering live-action movie in the works alongside TV "universe" and "other content" ]]> Beloved card game Magic: The Gathering is getting the "universe" treatment, for better or worse.

Hasbro announced via press release that it's teaming up with Legendary Entertainment to create not only a Magic: The Gathering live-action feature film, but also a "television universe" and, eventually, "other content."

As a writer primarily focused on video games, I'm all too familiar with Hollywood production companies taking a popular game and expanding it into movies and TV, often using the term "universe" to mean multimedia franchise.

"This is an exciting and complementary partnership, uniting one of the world’s most iconic brands with a powerful and proven steward. Magic: The Gathering has inspired decades of epic world-building and creative storytelling. It is a perfect match for Legendary’s diversified approach to marquee IP, and we are excited to work together to build a whole new Magic. The Gathering universe," said Hasbro head of film Zev Foreman.

As far as timing, no specific release windows have been revealed, but according to the press release, the plan is to kick off the new Magic: The Gathering universe with the live-action movie and then follow that up with the TV show and potentially other crossovers, presumably depending on the success of the first adaptations.

No cast, writing, or directorial deets have been revealed.

There have been several attempts to adapt Magic: The Gathering for film, including at Universal, Fox, and Netflix, going back more than a decade, but nothing's materialized so far. Hopefully Legendary has the magic touch to make something finally materialize.

Who knows? Maybe Magic: The Gathering will one day join the ranks of the best video game movies ever. Until then, peruse our guide to all of the upcoming movies you should have on your radar.

<![CDATA[ Tom Cruise says he had to "train himself to breathe" for intense Mission: Impossible 8 stunts: "There were times I would pass out physically" ]]> Tom Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie went all out for the last installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise.

"There would be a day in Africa - any day in Africa - where Tom would go out and do something that topped anything he had ever done before," McQuarrie told Empire. "I truly want to puke thinking about the stress. It was intense.”

"When you stick your face out, going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen," Cruise explained. "So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit."

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, previously titled Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, follows IMF agent Ethan Hunt as he attempts to destroy a dangerous AI known as The Entity. The first trailer was released in January, which sees Cruise hang from a biplane, engage in several high-octane fights, and do a series of death-defying underwater stunts. It's also worth mentioning that the film has a budget of $400 million, making it one of the most expensive films ever made - which makes sense for the last installment of one of the biggest action franchises ever.

The cast includes Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Angela Bassett, Nick Offerman, and Pom Klementieff.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning hits theaters on May 23. For more, check out our list of the most exciting upcoming movies in 2025, or, check out our complete list of movie release dates.

<![CDATA[ Sarah Michelle Gellar breaks silence on Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot: "We will only make this show if we can do it right" ]]> Sarah Michelle Gellar has broken her silence about the recently announced Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot.

"I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit Buffy and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right," Gellar wrote in a lengthy statement on her personal Instagram account. "This has been a long process, and it's not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there."

"I feel so lucky to be on this journey with these four unbelievably talented women, all of whom love Buffy as much as I do. And as much as you do. Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you."

In the statement, Gellar explains that her friend and mentor Gail Berman asked her to sit down with Chloé Zhao some three years ago, to discuss a potential Buffy reboot. Though she didn't agree to anything right away, the conversation continued over the years and eventually writing duo Nora and Lilla Zuckerman were added to the project. You can read the full statement below.

It was announced last week that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival was not just in talks, but was ordered to pilot by Hulu. Zhao is set to direct with Gellar confirmed to star, though it's unclear whether the series will revolve around a new slayer or be a direct continuation of the hit series which ended in 2002.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is streaming now on Hulu. For more, check out our list of the best new TV shows coming in 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The comic book history of Galactus, Marvel's weirdest, coolest cosmic villain ]]> Sing, o muse, of Galan of Taa! Lone survivor of the Sixth Cosmos, reborn as the undying constant of universal hunger known as Galactus!

OK, so that was a bit dramatic - but so is the history of Galactus, one of Marvel's most distinctive and destructive villains, who will make it to the big screen in something close to his pure, unadulterated comic book form in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Played by Ralph Ineson, Galactus is seen just barely in the recently released first trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which shows the back of his giant, unmistakably weird helmet, along with his massive shadow being cast over New York City.

For lifelong Marvel fans, especially fans of the Fantastic Four, this moment is a long time coming. The last time Galactus was portrayed on film, in 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, he was kinda just a big cloud in space, with a hint of the shape of his aforementioned helmet thrown in.

Needless to say, for a character who is classically shown in comics as a giant guy in purple armor, the space-cloud version was a huge disappointment. So seeing Jack Kirby's brilliantly bizarre design rendered onscreen - even just in the hints we've gotten - is a huge thrill.

What will also be a thrill is seeing how The Fantastic Four: First Steps adapts the classic Galactus Trilogy, told in 1966's Fantastic Four #48-50 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, who created the character for the story.

That groundbreaking arc was one of Marvel's first three-part sequential comic tales, paving the way for the current superhero comic style of having issues that function more like TV episodes, with a story that continues issue-to-issue instead of simple done-in-one adventures that share little connective tissue beyond the hero's involvement.

And of course, there's the excitement of discovering just how Galactus' only-in-comics mega sci-fi backstory could influence the plot of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, as well as potentially the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, as Galactus' comic history goes all the way back to the birth of the Marvel Universe at the dawn of time - and technically, even further back than that.

Galactus in Marvel Comics

Galactus confronts The Watcher as the Fantastic Four look on

In the fictional reality of the Marvel Universe, the current timeline is not the first iteration of the universe. In fact, it's not even the second, third, or fourth - it's actually the seventh time the entirety of universal history, from the Big Bang to the heat-death of the universe, has played out in full.

In each of those previous realities, whole civilizations rose and fell, galactic empires stretched across the cosmos, and heroes and villains did battle in epic sagas - just like in the Marvel Universe we know. But each of those previous iterations also inevitably collapsed, leaving little if any trace of their existence to all but the most eldritch cosmic beings, whose power transcends time and space.

This is where Galactus, known in his previous life as Galan of the planet Taa, enters the picture. Facing the end of his reality in the dying embers of the Sixth Cosmos, Galan finds himself the last surviving being in his entire universe. This brings him into contact with the being known as the Sentience of the Sixth Cosmos, who bonds with Galan, bringing him forward into the newly birthing Seventh Cosmos (the current Marvel timeline) as the cosmically powerful Galactus.

Throughout the entirety of the current Seventh Cosmos, Galactus has served as a universal constant, a being of pure entropy who, while neither actually good nor evil, serves as a fulcrum of destruction for the universe's delicate balancing act of birth, death, and rebirth.

In other words, he eats entire planets, draining them of their lifeforce and extinguishing all living things on them - not because he's evil and wishes ill on these worlds, but because he is cursed with an unending cosmic hunger that must be fed in order for the universe to function properly.

It's that last bit that has made him such a difficult foe for the Fantastic Four and for the Marvel Universe at large. No one wants their own planet to be eaten by Galactus, but Galactus must eat for reality to maintain its balance. Galactus' hunger is so integral to the function of reality that Reed Richards once had to actually defend Galactus' continued existence in order to preserve the cosmos.

This is also where the Silver Surfer comes in, serving as the herald of Galactus, seeking out suitable worlds for his master to devour. That's how Galactus winds up on Earth, and also how he winds up being deterred with the help of his one-time herald - though he returns to Earth time and time again, and is repelled each time.

It's comic book science of the highest order, but it's also an interesting idea that stems from the original conception of Galactus by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee as an enemy of the Fantastic Four who is, functionally, a deity of omnipotent power. This is also why, in the lore of Marvel Comics, Galactus isn't technically actually a giant humanoid. He has no true form, appearing as a reflection of the people he encounters on each planet he visits.

Galactus in the MCU

It's tough to say exactly how Galactus will fit into The Fantastic Four: First Steps beyond his obvious role as a threat for the team to face, in what seems to be shaping up to be a fairly faithful adaptation of the classic Galactus Trilogy.

But the key factor that could complicate the relatively straightforward idea of the FF repelling Galactus from eating the Earth as a plot point is that The Fantastic Four: First Steps takes place in a separate reality from the core Marvel Universe, away from the Avengers and their allies.

Given the conceit that Galactus is the sole survivor of a previous universe, who is one of if not the only being who truly remembers what the previous iteration of reality was like, and the likelihood that the FF will wind up in the core MCU reality, it seems quite possible that the FF's encounter with Galactus will lead to their traveling to the core MCU to crossover with the Avengers in Avengers: Doomsday, and could even have something to do with the likely plot of Avengers: Secret Wars which is based on a comic story in which all of reality is destroyed, with only bits and pieces of a few worlds left over.

All of that seems to dovetail quite nicely with Galactus' inclusion in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. And of course there's also the matter of HERBIE, the FF's robot pal who, in comics, has direct ties to Galactus, something that could also come into play in the film.

Fantastic Four arrives in theaters on July 25. While we wait, check out our guides to all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows on the way and our breakdown of how to watch the Marvel movies in order.

<![CDATA[ Invincible finally lets its One-Punch Man parody mirror his anime counterpart during the season 3 premiere ]]> Invincible isn't exactly shy when it comes to skewering the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of superhero media. Darkwing is clearly a Batman stand-in, while the second season smartly sidestepped the comics' Spider-Man crossover with a legally distinct wallcrawler.

One that may have slipped by, however, is the background character of Two-Punch Man.

Prior to the third season, the bald superhero had only appeared in the background of a handful of scenes. But the parody of anime and manga hero One-Punch Man suddenly lived up to his hard-hitting billing during the season 3 premiere.

Spoilers for Invincible season 3 follow. You have been warned!

While the supervillain may have momentarily had the upper hand during his ploy to capture all of America's superheroes near the Earth's lava-spewing crust, the arrival of Mark, Eve, and former villain D.A. Sinclair – a point of contention between Invincible and the GDA, to put it mildly – helped turn the tide.

During the superpowered comeback at the 39-minute mark, you'll be able to glimpse a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sighting of Two-Punch Man swooping in and fighting off a handful of monsters.

For the uninitiated, One-Punch Man – real name Saitama – is a hero from the manga of the same name. Later adapted into an anime, One-Punch Man stands out from the crowd due to his hilariously overmatched powers compared to his villains – something that leads to Saitama searching for a worthy foe to fight.

Despite a long hiatus, One-Punch Man season 3 should be hitting our screens this year, though the new anime has been largely radio silent since its initial trailer 12 months ago. Though we can't imagine it will return the favor and have Mark doing battle with the Monster Association anytime soon.

<![CDATA[ New action-comedy Love Hurts might be from John Wick's producers but it's more like Dragons Forever than the Keanu Reeves franchise, says Ke Huy Quan ]]> New action comedy Love Hurts may be from the team behind Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde and the John Wick franchise, but it's closer to "Hong Kong movies from the '80s" than any modern day blockbuster, says star Ke Huy Quan.

"From the very beginning, we were very in sync on what kind of movie we wanted to make. Everybody involved loves, and grew up watching, the Hong Kong '80s action movies, especially the ones that came from Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung," the Oscar winner tells GamesRadar+, citing Dragons Forever, Winners & Sinners, and Project A as more direct influences.

"What was really special about those movies is that you can clearly see it's the actors doing all the fighting. We wanted to pay homage to that, but I also just wanted to do all the fights myself. In order to get me ready, 87North [Productions] got together this amazing action team and they trained me for 3 months and it was a tough 3 months, because even though I knew the moves, it was about getting my body in shape. It was very physically demanding."

Love Hurts

Also starring the likes of Ariana DeBose, Daniel Wu, and Quan's The Goonies co-star Sean Astin, Love Hurts centers on Marvin Gable, a mild-mannered, hard-working realtor who's more likely to toss you a homemade cookie than throw a punch. His peaceful life is upended, though, when an old acquaintance of his suddenly reenters his life. Not only does he have a romantic history with Rose (DeBose), she has a complicated past involving Marvin's mobster brother Knuckles – and now the latter knows she's back in town, he'll stop at nothing to find her. Even if he has to kill Marvin to get to her...

"A lot of the Jackie Chan movies are very creative. He loves using stuff, just ordinary stuff that you would find in your kitchen or your home, and using it as a weapon," smiles Quan. "So when I saw [these fights that included] pencils and cookie cutters, I was like, 'Yes! This is exciting.'

"With Love Hurts, we're not trying to do something new, but it has been a long time since audiences have seen something like this. Hopefully those who haven't grown up on those movies will find it new and exciting and those who did will get to feel like kids again."

Love Hurts releases in cinemas on February 7. For more, check out our picks of the best action movies of all time.

<![CDATA[ Tom Cruise had two bizarre requests for Tropic Thunder, according to Ben Stiller ]]> Tropic Thunder star and director Ben Stiller has revealed the bizarre requests Tom Cruise had for his character.

Cruise played Les Grossman in the movie, a studio executive with a bad temper who was producing the fictional Tropic Thunder film.

So what were Cruise's two requests? "He wanted to have big, thick forearms that were hairy," Stiller told Conan O'Brien, adding: "And he wanted to dance."

Stiller went on to say that he originally wanted Cruise to play his own part in the movie, but ultimately, Cruise ended up having the idea for a studio executive character. "And so we went back and came up with Les Grossman, and it changed the whole plot of the movie," Stiller said. "But made it so much better."

Along with Cruise and Stiller, Tropic Thunder also stars Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Steve Coogan, Nick Nolte, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Matthew McConaughey, Brandon T. Jackson, Brandon Soo Hoo, and Reggie Lee.

Stiller's latest project is Severance season 2, which is currently releasing on Apple TV Plus. "We had no idea if anybody would even watch or get [into it], but it's a different kind of thing when people had watched the show and really gotten into it," Stiller told us on a season 2 set visit. "The fans have gotten into it. So you do feel like you want to give them something that's worth the wait."

Severance season 2 continues weekly, and you can keep up with our Severance season 2 release schedule. For more, fill out your watchlist with our guide to the best shows on Apple TV Plus.

<![CDATA[ Marvel star signs up to wild new horror movie from Longlegs producers that's told from the perspective of a dog ]]> Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan is exploring a new genre after signing up to a horror movie with a very unique premise. The Marvel star will play a serial killer who lives a seemingly normal life, but is hiding a dark secret – and only his dog can help.

Bad Boy is told from the perspective of the four-legged companion of killer Cameron, who loves his new owner. According to the synopsis shared by Deadline, dog Gary is not allowed in the basement "and even if he was, he can’t unlock doors." However, there's a girl trapped down there and "Gary doesn’t know it, but he’s her only chance." Reinhart will play Cameron's victim.

The Girl in the Woods director Jacob Chase is down to direct from a script from Travis Braun. Filming kicks off in August, and the movie will be produced by Longlegs and M3gan producers, placing the genre flick in solid hands.

"I love dogs more than people," Chase said in a statement. "And I’m tired of seeing horror movies where the dog is the first one to die. They’re not just pets, they’re our best friends, and I believe it’s time for a horror film where the dog is the hero. Bad Boy is about loyalty, instinct, and the incredible bond between humans and dogs. It’s going to be a highly original, grounded, deeply suspenseful fresh take on a horror thriller. And I’m thrilled to collaborate with Ke and Lili on two roles unlike anything they’ve played before."

Quan has been booked and busy since his Oscar win for Everything Everywhere All At Once, having taken the part of O.B. in Loki season 2a role he told us he'd love to reprise. Next up for him is Love Hurts, a rom-com action thriller that the actor initially passed on twice.

<![CDATA[ Captain America: Brave New World director explains why "incredible" WWE Superstar's villain was cut from the Marvel film ]]> Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah has addressed why WWE Superstar Seth Rollins' role was ultimately cut from the new Marvel movie.

While exact details around Rollins' part are unknown, he would have seemingly played a member of the Serpent Society, a snake-themed group of villains pulled straight from the pages of Captain America's comics.

As Onah tells ComicBook.com, even before Rollins' part was left on the cutting room floor there was some work that needed to be done to ensure the larger-than-life personas of the Serpent Society fit into the grounded thriller of Brave New World.

"When you’re taking characters like Serpent Society from publishing, who, as you know, are individuals dressed up as snakes and have snake-adjacent powers, you’re always iterating and trying to figure out the version that totally works best in a movie like this," Onah said.

On Rollins, Onah added, "I love Seth, Seth’s incredible. But as we were evolving, we knew we had an additional photography period, just one that we did early on in the process that’s planned."

From there, a certain Giancarlo Esposito became available. Soon, his villain Sidewinder took centre stage and Rollins' character was the unfortunate casualty.

“We were trying to figure out, ‘Hey, who’s somebody that can bring a very specific kind of gravitas that works with this tone?’ And when Giancarlo became available, it was such a no-brainer," Onah said.

Rollins, real name Colby Lopez, previously appeared in Sharknado 4. His wife and fellow wrestler Becky Lynch has also had an MCU role cut, with Fightful reporting that she was originally set to appear in one of the Eternals post-credits scenes. Another WWE star, Randy Orton, previously revealed he once auditioned for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2, a part that eventually went to Josh Brolin.

Captain America: Brave New World, starring Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, and Harrison Ford, is set to hit cinemas on February 14.

<![CDATA[ Homelander actor Antony Starr's James Bond screen test for Casino Royale has been leaked online, and The Boys fans are all making the same joke ]]> Along with Henry Cavill, Rupert Friend, and Sam Worthington, The Boys actor Antony Starr has had his James Bond screen test from 2005 mysteriously posted online, and fans are absolutely loving it.

The four-and-a-half-minute video, posted on YouTube by Ron South, shows Starr reading for the role of the new James Bond, presumably for the 2006 flick Casino Royale, after Pierce Bronson sipped his last Martini as 007 in 2002. The star is reading from the Golden Eye script, where Bronson’s agent is flirting with Bond girl Xenia Onatopp. Check out the full video below.

The response to Starr’s screen test has been mostly positive, with many pointing out how refreshing it is to hear the star’s native New Zealand accent, and others comparing his performance to that of '70s Bond actor Roger Moore. "Out of all the ones you've uploaded so far, Starr seems to be the best fit in my eyes," commented one viewer.

However, it hasn't taken long for The Boys fans to get their hands on the video, and the jokes have already started to reel in on Reddit. "Lander HomeLander," responded one fan, while another added, "Breast milk, squeezed not pumped."

It seems that although Starr appeared in many TV shows and movies before The Boys, fans will always see him as Homelander. Starr will return as the milk-loving villain next year in the final season of the hit Prime Video show. The Boys season 5 is currently filming, with Starr suiting up for the last time alongside co-stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and more. The season is expected to land in 2026.

<![CDATA[ The Acolyte star says the Star Wars show's cancelation was "overwhelming," but she's still "proud" of playing a Jedi: "Bucket list ticked" ]]> Dafne Keen, who played Jedi Padawan Jecki Lon in The Acolyte, has talked about the Star Wars show's cancelation.

The series was not renewed for more last year despite ending on a massive cliffhanger, with the reasoning put down to poor viewership. It starred Amandla Stenberg in dual roles as twins Osha and Mae.

"It's definitely, I think, overwhelming for all of us," Keen told Screen Rant. "I think we were all very proud of what we created. I know I'm very proud [of my character], I was very proud of how my friend Amandla [Stenberg] handled the situation. And honestly, I'm a huge nerd myself, so I was just really happy that I got to play a Jedi. Bucket list ticked."

Jecki (spoiler alert) was brutally killed off by Manny Jacinto's Qimir halfway through The Acolyte, so, even if a season 2 did happen, Jecki wouldn't have been back for more.

Despite the show's cancelation, a new report has said that The Acolyte was Disney Plus's most-viewed show of 2024, behind only Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It also had a devoted fanbase which launched a campaign to save the show with the #RenewTheAcolyte hashtag.

After the news broke, Stenberg called out "a rampage of… hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudiced hatred and hateful language towards us," commenting that the cancelation was "not a huge shock." However, her co-star Lee Jung-jae, who played Jedi Master Sol, shared that he was "quite surprised personally."

Next up for Star Wars is Andor season 2, which releases on Disney Plus this April 23. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the upcoming Star Wars movies and shows for everything else the galaxy far, far away has in store.

<![CDATA[ 20 years later, Henry Cavill's James Bond audition that the director called "tremendous" has been leaked online ]]> Henry Cavill's audition to play 007 has been released online, and it gives us a hint at the Superman actor's take on the iconic character. In the video, which you can see below, Cavill reads scenes from Goldeneye, originally spoken by Pierce Brosnan's James Bond.

The audition from 2005 sees Cavill speak some classic lines, including his order of a "vodka martini, shaken not stirred" and that his name is "Bond, James Bond". The full video lasts about seven minutes in total and sees the star, who was in his early 20s at this point, act the scene several different times.

This is the first time we've seen the actual audition, but we've known for a long time that Cavill was one of the initial frontrunners for Bond. Speaking back in 2003, Casino Royale director Martin Campbell described his audition as "tremendous".

"He looked great in the audition," he told Express.co.uk. "His acting was tremendous. And look, if Daniel didn’t exist Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape… very handsome, very chiseled. He just looked a little young at that time back then."

Cavill's audition isn't the only one released by the YouTube channel Ron South, with the Bond screen tests of Avatar's Sam Worthington, Pride and Prejudice star Rupert Friend, and The Boys actor Antony Starr all available to watch too. It's not clear exactly where the videos have come from.

The role of course went to Daniel Craig, who played the super spy in five films. For more on all things 007, check our guides to the best James Bond movies, ranked from worst to best and the best James Bond stunts.

<![CDATA[ Original Hellboy actor Ron Perlman "had an opportunity" to reprise the role, but refused to do it without Guillermo del Toro involved ]]> Original Hellboy actor Ron Perlman has revealed he was offered the chance to reprise his role as the hellish hero, but turned it down because director Guillermo del Toro wasn't involved.

When asked by That Hashtag Show whether he would want to play Hellboy again, Perlman replied, "For Guillermo, I would."

He added, "I had an opportunity to play him for other people and I passed. That's his franchise as far as I'm concerned – and I'm his boy."

Perlman played the gruff, gun-toting B.P.R.D demon in both 2004's Hellboy and 2008's Hellboy: The Golden Army, each time directed by Del Toro. Perlman has also collaborated with the Mexican director in several more movies, including 2013's Pacific Rim.

Since then, the Right Hand of Doom has punched its way through two more features. The first was a tepidly-received 2019 reboot starring David Harbour as Hellboy. A 2024 attempt, The Crooked Man, brought the series back to its more supernatural horror roots but still failed to ignite at the box office – grossing only $2 million.

Guillermo del Toro, meanwhile, is getting ready to unleash his Frankenstein movie onto the world over at Netflix. The creature feature – starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth – is set for release later this year. A behind-closed-doors trailer offers journalists a glimpse at what's to come, with Del Toro stating: "The character has fused with my soul. It doesn't get more personal than this."

<![CDATA[ Harrison Ford defends Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in the most Harrison Ford way: "S*** happens" ]]> Harrison Ford isn't too concerned over Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny flopping at the box office.

"Shit happens," Ford told The Wall Street Journal. "I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened. I’m still happy I made that movie."

The final installment of the Indiana Jones franchise saw Indy team up with his estranged goddaughter Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) to obtain a rare artifact before a Nazi scientist (Mads Mikkelsen) gets to it first. James Mangold took over directing duties from Steven Spielberg, with Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth, and Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp penning the script.

The film grossed $384 million worldwide against its budget of $295 million, making it an expensive loss for Disney. Critics were also mixed on the pic, which notably featured a de-aged Ford created with CGI.

Ford has since joined a new franchise, taking over for the late William Hurt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as President Thadeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross in Captain America: Brave New World. In the upcoming pic, Ross clashes with Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson - and also turns into the Red Hulk.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit theaters on February 14. For more, check out our guide to all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows you need to know about.

<![CDATA[ This new Netflix thriller looks like the perfect mash-up of Parasite meets Saltburn in its tense first trailer ]]> The first trailer for Delicious, the directorial debut from German filmmaker Nele Mueller-Stöfen, is here – and we're getting Parasite meets Saltburn vibes.

In the brief clip, which can be viewed below, a mysterious young woman named Teodora (Carla Diaz) encounters a wealthy couple. They take her in, initially hiring her as a nanny of sorts, before things start to get... weird.

Per the official synopsis, the thriller follows "a wealthy German family who hires a young woman as a domestic helper during their summer vacation in Provence, and the entire family life gradually changes with dramatic consequences." The plot summary goes on to say that the family quickly realizes that taking Teodora in was a mistake – and judging by the quick shots of knives and sinister foreshadowing in the trailer, we can infer that it might be the fatal kind of mistake.

The concept – mysterious young woman with ulterior motives coming to live with a rich family – is very Parasite, but Teodora reminds us a whole lot of Oliver Quick in Saltburn.

Written and directed by Mueller-Stöfen, the cast includes Valerie Pachner, Fahri Yardim, Naila Schuberth, Caspar Hoffmann, Julien de Saint Jean, Sina Martens, Johann von Bülow, Miveck Packa, Tom Rey, and Nina Zem. The film is set to compete for the Panorama Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 75th Annual Berlin International Film Festival.

Delicious is set to premiere at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival on February 18, before hitting Netflix on March 7. For more, check out our list of the best Netflix shows and the best Netflix movies to stream right now.

<![CDATA[ Loki star Ke Huy Quan passed on new action-comedy Love Hurts twice because he "didn't know why they were reaching out" to him ]]> Despite winning an Oscar for his performance in action-packed comedy-drama Everything Everywhere All at Once, there was a time when Ke Huy Quan couldn't work out why 87North Productions, the team behind John Wick and Bullet Train, wanted him to lead their next film, Love Hurts. So much so, that he actually passed on the script twice before eventually signing on to play butt-kicking realtor Marvin Gable.

"When I was first sent the script, I read it right away, because I was excited. One, it came from 87North..." the Loki star tells GamesRadar+ with a big grin. "I remember loving the script but I was confused because I didn't know why they were reaching out to me for this character; I didn't see myself as [Marvin]. I thought it was written for a different type of actor. I actually passed on it.

"Luckily they didn't give up, they came back a second time, and a third time, so I went in and I met with our producing team and [Jonathan] 'JoJo' Eusebio, our director, and then I realized that they were trying to create a different kind of action hero. Someone who doesn't look badass but when the situation calls for it, then you realize, 'Wow, this guy is a true badass!"

Also featuring the likes of Daniel Wu, Ariana DeBose, and Quan's The Goonies co-star Sean Astin, Love Hurts sees Marvin experience the Valentine's Day from hell when Rose, a mysterious former acquaintance of his, suddenly reenters his life. Turns out, Rose has a complicated history with Marvin's mobster brother Alvin (or Knuckles, as his cronies like to call him) – and now that he's heard she's back in town, he's started threatening Marvin to get him to reveal her whereabouts. Will the sweater vest-loving optimist be willing to risk his new, peaceful life and embrace his dark side to protect them both?

While it's not hard to imagine what the movie would've turned out like had a Keanu Reeves or Jason Statham-type playing mild-mannered Marvin, Quan says he had to personally undo all that he'd come to expect from an action hero in order to take on the role.

"I'd been conditioned all these years to think that an action hero needs to look a certain way; needs to have big biceps, needs to be a certain height, needs to act a certain way," he notes. "So I had to change my own internal narrative and to look at this character from a different perspective. Once I did that, I thought, 'I am Marvin Gable!' It was such a revelation, and once I said 'yes' to this, we did make little tweaks here and there to make it even more [suited] for me. It was so fun! I'm glad they didn't give up on me and I changed my mind."

Love Hurts releases in cinemas on February 7. For more, check out our picks of the best action movies of all time.

<![CDATA[ The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer proves the Marvel movie will be like nothing we've seen before in the MCU – and I couldn't be happier ]]> If there's one fair critique of superhero movies, it's that they can sometimes end up a bit generic. Clean, smooth visuals, familiar-looking action scenes, and plenty of CGI often mean it can be pretty difficult to tell the latest DC release from Marvel's most recent entry in the MCU.

There are, of course, some notable exceptions, with films like Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy helping to break the mold, as well as TV shows like WandaVision and Loki, which both embraced their period settings. Now, it seems like The Fantastic Four: First Steps is about to join that list too, based on its super stylish first trailer.

The movie, which is due out in theaters this July, is set in a "1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world" according to Marvel. This is something that's been written all over the marketing materials so far, from that first-look drawing to the unveiling of the film's logo and title – and the new trailer is no different. It starts off by playing with its aspect ratio before introducing the period-specific set designs, costuming, and Space Race-era graphics. Everything is demonstrating that this isn't your usual superhero fare, and the bold direction looks set to make it stand out in a year of busy releases.

Attention to detail

The key to really nailing the aesthetics of a period piece is attention to detail, and this is something director Matt Shakman knows well from his work on WandaVision. That TV show ushered in a new era of Marvel, not just on the small screen, but also in its commitment to setting and style. Shifting weekly from sitcom era to sitcom era, it was beautifully designed and utterly captivating to watch.

This close eye attention is also something woven throughout the first trailer for Fantastic Four too. Costuming details especially stand out, from the team's outfits themselves (which Pedro Pascal explains have a '60s influence) to using a local vintage shop to supply suits. Then there's the sleek design of the Baxter Building, full of era-specific kitchen utensils, patterned rugs, and mid-century modern furniture.

It's something that also holds true to the golden era of Fantastic Four comics too. The team first debuted in 1961 and helped take Marvel from a smaller imprint to a pop culture powerhouse. It's here that Shakman says he's been drawing his greatest inspiration from the movie too. "I'm not so much looking at the other movies, I'm looking at the comics themselves," he told Inverse back in 2023, sharing how he'd been focusing on Stan Lee's take on the characters.

Another major influence is the post World War Two Space Race era that saw the United States and the Soviet Union rushing to become the first nation in space. "The comic was created in the early '60s, really at the same time that the Space Race was starting, so it is infused with that idea of looking to the stars and dreaming of a future where we would be space travelers," he told Entertainment Weekly in 2024. "And so I really wanted to take all of that great stuff from Apollo 11 and just imagine that instead of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, it was the Storms and Ben Grimm and Reed Richards heading off into space."

To boldly go

The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer

The distinctive style of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is most evident when you compare it to the other superhero movies we're expecting over the next few months. Take the trailers for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* – while I think both look like great films, there's nothing at this point that suggests a break from the superhero mold.

Similarly, James Gunn's upcoming Superman had a really good-looking first trailer, which left me intrigued by his take on the new DCU – but it still doesn't have much that makes it stand apart in an increasingly busy genre. The CGI heavy shots and clashes between good and evil look cool, but it doesn't feel like something we've never seen before.

It's an interesting comparison too because just like Superman, the Fantastic Four are some of the most-frequently adapted characters on screen. Yet, despite this being a familiar story to many, this first look feels completely different from how we've seen Marvel's First Family depicted before.

While we're still a way off the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and there's a lot left to be worked out with the movie (including that divisive CGI for The Thing), all signs are pointing to it being a fully-realized, unique new space for the MCU. And if Shakman brings the level of WandaVision to the big screen, I've got a feeling it could be Marvel's most exciting cinema release yet.

Fantastic Four arrives in theaters on July 25. While we wait, check out our guides to all the upcoming Marvel movies and shows on the way and our breakdown of how to watch the Marvel movies in order.
