Fresh off the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer earlier this week, Marvel has also unveiled a new look at Thunderbolts*.

We've seen a couple of first looks at the Marvel Phase 5 movie already, but this one is the most action-packed yet. The trailer, released at the 2025 Super Bowl, can be watched above - and it looks like the MCU's most beloved antiheroes are stepping in for the Avengers.

In the brief clip, Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine tells a courtroom that the Avengers "aren't coming" and that it's up to the Thunderbolts, consisting of a plethora of MCU antiheroes who have definitely committed some war crimes, to save the world. "None of us can fly," Yelena says. "So we all just punch and shoot?"

The emotional trailer sees the team become discouraged by their pasts, only to be reassured that they do have some goodness in them - and that they are, in fact, the right people for the job - which seems to be defeating the mysterious Sentry. There's plenty of ass-kicking action, explosions, car flips - and there's still an asterisk next to the film's title for some reason.

The premise sees a team brought together by Valentina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) for a special government mission. Alongside Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, the movie also brings back David Harbour's Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell's John Walker, Olga Kurylenko's Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman's Bob (or Sentry if we're being honest), and Hannah John-Kamen's Ava Starr.

Star Stan has been vocal about how great he thinks Pugh is in the movie, which she previously told GamesRadar+ she was very flattered by. "I was very, very chuffed that he said that about me," she told us at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. "Also, it's so kind when people that you look up to and respect and love working with say wonderful things about you because it just makes you fill yourself with confidence and makes you feel that the thing you appreciate is also appreciating you and it's a lovely feeling. And he's been in the MCU for such a long time so to hear that from him is very special."

Thunderbolts* is due to hit theaters on May 2, just a few months after Captain America: Brave New World. They're not the only upcoming superhero movies either as The Fantastic Four: First Steps then arrives in July.

<![CDATA[ Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning trailer sees Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt embark on his most dangerous mission yet ]]>

The new trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is here and, forget the Super Bowl, the real action can be found in what's shaping up to be Ethan Hunt's final Mission.

In the brief trailer, which can be viewed above, Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt embarks on what appears to be his final mission - complete with explosions, underwater stunts, and a scene where Cruise does that famous drop-down move from the first movie. "Everything you are, everything you've done, has come to this," the voice-over says. We also see Cruise very impressively hang off a biplane that's speeding through the air. Needless to say, the stakes are high and the stunts are more dangerous than ever.

Even the air of finality surrounding The Final Reckoning hasn't slowed the action franchise or Cruise down, however.

"We had a small screening and someone said, 'I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack.' And I thought, 'I guess we did something right," director Christopher McQuarrie told Empire of an unnamed sequence.

Meanwhile, the Final Reckoning's callback to Mission: Impossible 3 might elicit shock of a very different kind, one that could majorly hint at how the curtain-closer acts as a love letter to the series' past. In the first Final Reckoning trailer, a canister that appears to contain the Rabbit's Foot MacGuffin from the J.J. Abrams-directed threequel can be glimpsed.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, stars Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, Vanessa Kirby, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and Pom Klementieff. It's set to hit cinemas on May 23, 2025.

For more, check out the upcoming movies headed your way very soon. Then your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to dive into our ranking of the best Mission: Impossible movies.

<![CDATA[ "Valve does a very good job of surfacing games that players like": As his new RPG prepares for Steam early access, ex-WoW vet says making good games is the only real hack ]]> Former World of Warcraft veteran designer Chris Kaleiki is prepping his new extraction RPG for early access, but he's not too worried about its launch because he reckons Steam's algorithm is "impenetrable," and as long as the game is good it'll get in front of the right people.

Chris Kaleiki is perhaps best known for designing WoW classes for 13 years, but he's trying to change that at his new company Notorious Studios with a new game, the PvPvE RPG Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, which is headed to early access on February 12.

Of course, launching any game these days can be a gamble because, well, there are way too many games to keep track of and gamers only have so much bandwidth to play with them all. Even so, Kaleiki told GamesRadar he feels "super excited" about launch and "in some ways, I was more nervous or had more anxiety when we did the first alpha friends and family play test, because again, I didn't quite know how the game would go." Now that he knows "the game is good based on player feedback," some of that trepidation is gone. "There are some players who play the game literally, gosh, 60 hours during a week play test. So I think there's a market for it. There's a player who is interested in it. I think it's fun."

His personal feelings aside, there's also the commercial side of releasing a game - "the marketing, getting it out there, getting players to see it" is a whole different story. "And this is the bane to every game developer's existence these days because marketing is completely shifting on how to market a game."

Despite all the external challenges, Kaleiki still feels "there's not much we can do there with the budget" and "the most important thing is the game has to be good." That's because, according to him, "Valve does a very good job of surfacing games that players like or that players are enjoying" and "the algorithm is almost impenetrable."

"If you watch some indie dev videos, they'll often say we tried hacking the algorithm, we tried doing all these goofy things, and there's not much you can do," he said. "All you can really do is make a good game, which, in a lot of ways, is good news for us, but also this is really hard because there's no little hacks you can do to surface your game like you could 20 years ago. "

We'll see how Legacy: Steel & Sorcery does when it hits Steam early access in just a few days.

In the meantime, keep an eye on the upcoming indie games of 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ BioWare's Sonic The Hedgehog RPG "actually uses Dragon Age: Origins dialogue system heavily streamlined to fit on the Nintendo DS" ]]> Former BioWare veteran Mark Darrah has revealed that the storied studio's oft-forgotten, seemingly random Sonic RPG uses the same under-the-hood dialogue system as Dragon Age: Origins - or, rather, because of the order of release, maybe Dragon Age uses Sonic's code stack.

The former long-time Dragon Age executive producer revealed the interesting tidbit in a new YouTube video, calling 2008's Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood his "favorite" project to work on because there was something "magical about leading a team as small as this game was - it never got much above 20 people."

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood "actually uses Dragon Age: Origins' dialogue system," Darrah said. "Heavily streamlined to fit on the Nintendo DS, but it's still at its base the same code stack. I guess if you really wanted to try, you could make the argument that, because Sonic Chronicles shipped in 2008 and Dragon Age: Origins didn't ship until 2009, that Dragon Age: Origins actually shipped using the Sonic Chronicles dialogue system."

The Sonic RPG team eventually moved on to the cancelled Mass Effect DS game that was planned to have you pirating across the fringes of the galaxy in first person. The spin-off was scrapped due to the economics of shipping games on the Nintendo DS, though.

BioWare now doesn't have the bandwidth for any quirky projects like Sonic Chronicles, though. The entire studio now reportedly employs around 100 people after EA cut even more roles from the team. The publisher blamed the layoffs on Dragon Age: The Veilguard's performance, but one wonders how much more "agile" a team can get.

Baldur’s Gate 3 developer slams EA’s BioWare layoffs as “a short-term cost-cutting measure” that “doesn’t solve a long-term” problem.

<![CDATA[ My Steam wishlist is bigger than ever thanks to the indie devs flooding social media with 15-second clips explaining their games ]]> A new online trend has indie developers posting 15-second clips that briefly (sometimes) explain their game, and my Steam wishlist is looking scarily big.

The trend was seemingly kicked off by developer quicktequila, who showed off their wildly stylish psychedelic shooter Tamashika and quickly garnered over 150k likes. It looks like you're rampaging through a twisty-turvy corridor that unfolds as you walk, murdering cartoony frogs, equipped with only a pistol for shooting and a knife for parrying and/or stabbing. It's gorgeous, trippy, and unlike anything else I've seen. You can wishlist it on Steam.

Next up is Mightreya, a spectacle fighter in the same vein as Hi-Fi Rush or Bayonetta where you're chaining sick combos and juggling foes in the pursuit of the validation of an S-rank. The twist here is that you're playing as an anime schoolgirl superhero who doubles as a content creator, so I'm guessing those S-ranks also lead to likes and follows and subscriptions. More validation, basically! See it's aerial combat below and check it out on Steam if you like.

Changing gears to something a little less frantic, we have Detective Dotson, a pixel art slice-of-life mystery game set in modern day India. I love how vibrant everything is. I love a good detective board. And, as a Yakuza sicko, I love the glimpses we get at all the mini-games in just 15 seconds. (What a cool trend!) This one's coming to Steam on April 3 - there's also a free demo.

This next one is slightly less wholesome. Car Park Capital looks like a chill, old school SimCity-like that has you connecting roads, building infrastructure, and helping your big-nose residents get around easier. It's actually a "satirical simulator" where the car industry has tasked you to "convert walkable cities into parking lots and use propaganda to convince everyone it's what they want." Truly evil! Sick, really. (It's also on my Steam wishlist, shh.)

Finally, we have Truckful, which seems like an initially chill sim about driving a truck through some of the most serene woods you've seen in-game. You'll soon be trying not to drift off a cliffside while unravelling a "small town mystery." It's also, of course, on Steam.

For more, keep an eye on the upcoming indie games of 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ Marvel fans are loving this deep-cut musical Easter egg in the Fantastic Four trailer which is a hidden tribute to the comics ]]> This week, Marvel took a brief step back into the swinging '60s with its brand-new Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer. This upcoming installment of the MCU will finally introduce Marvel's First Family to this 17-year-long franchise, and while the preview divided some fans, there was still plenty to enjoy. Besides the appearance of Galactus in all his comic book-accurate glory, one big takeaway was the Fantastic Four giving the nod to The Fab Four, aka The Beatles, courtesy of some awe-inspiring set design.

After seeing the silhouette of the Devourer of Worlds and The Thing looking heartbroken about his rocky new look, one shot saw the titular team standing together on a TV show set with arrows from every direction pointed at them. This band of heroes wasn't the first to walk on such a stage, though, as it's a direct homage to The Beatles' appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show back in 1965, only four years after the Fantastic Four's comic book debut.

It's a fitting wink to an equally iconic group who appeared in Marvel comics themselves. Besides getting their own comic book in 1978, The Beatles had plenty of run-ins with the Fantastic Four over the years. Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross' Marvels comic run saw Ben Grimm/The Thing and Johnny Storm/The Human Torch stop a robbery and cross paths with the band. Also, a group resembling The Beatles attended the wedding of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic and Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman. Well, it might've been them, as it was also revealed in later years that The Beatles in Earth-616 were hijacked by Skrulls, who continued the band's career while concealing their alien identities. Imagine.

There is no confirmation on whether The Beatles will appear in the upcoming film because while it might look like a familiar era, it's potentially not the dimension we know. As already spotted in the trailer in a blink-or-you-'ll-miss-it moment, Pedro Pascal's Reed is hard at work on a portal system that could bridge the gap between this future retro-looking world and the one with angry red presidents and wall-crawling menaces. We'll see how he makes it over when Fantastic Four: First Steps storms into theatres on July 25. Before that, check out the 12 easter eggs we spotted in the latest preview here.

<![CDATA[ Superman star Rachel Brosnahan reveals how James Gunn's DC movie is "so true to the comics" ]]> What would Superman really be without Lois Lane? It's a question we thankfully won't need to consider, given that James Gunn has found his perfect pair to play them in his upcoming film. As David Corenswet dons the cape and signature hair curl, Rachel Brosnahan will be left to look up in the sky as the Daily Planet's top reporter and she's excited for what's in store.

Speaking to Deadline about the upcoming film, Brosnahan assures that there's no better time than now for the Man of Tomorrow to make his return today. “We’re living in a moment of so much turmoil, both here, abroad,” explained the former star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. “There’s a lot of challenges for everybody in all different pockets of the world right now. And for a lot of the complaints that people have sometimes about superhero movies, at their core, they’re about the goodness of people and how good we can be to each other, how the pursuit of truth and justice really are the American way, and that courage and hope can carry us through."

So far, what's been left on show has given fans very little to complain about (excluding that viral clip of Supes flying that even Gunn himself had to address). Corenswet's Kal-El looks to be tapping into the classic iteration of the hero that the former Guardians of the Galaxy director revealed will bring a balance of the Silver Age comic book style for modern-age storytelling. Meanwhile, Brosnahan assured, "It’s a hopeful superhero movie, which I feel like is so true to the comics. So, I’m excited for audiences to see it and hopefully have some fun and enjoy the ride with us.”

But of course, just like Corenswet will be following in the superpowered footsteps of stars like Henry Cavill, Brandon Routh, and the legendary Christopher Reeve from director Richard Donner's iconic iteration, his co-star will have the same issue following the legendary Lois' that came before her. “I mean, I grew up loving the Donner Superman movies, the Chris Reeve Superman movies, Margot Kidder. I mean, she’s just a dream. So, I was definitely intimidated to step into this role but excited to pick up the mantle."

We'll see how Brosnahan handles staying in her Lane when Superman flies into theatres on July 11. For everything else DC-related, be sure to check out our guide of movies and shows from that universe here.

<![CDATA[ As PSN outages subside, Capcom might extend Monster Hunter Wilds' open beta for an extra day as the "test period was cut short" ]]> Capcom is thinking about extending the second Monster Hunter Wilds open beta because of the recent PSN outages.

The publisher acknowledged that the outages caused "inconvenience as you were unable to participate in the test" in a recent social media post. "Considering that a significant portion of the test period was cut short, we are currently examining the possibility of conducting an additional approximately 24-hour session next weekend or later."

The PlayStation Network was down for basically the entirety of yesterday, February 8, meaning it was impossible for most people to play online games, digitally-owned games, and connect to services like the PlayStation Store. The PSN outage also came at a particularly bad time for fans of slaying big beasts, though.

Monster Hunter Wilds' second open beta was set to take place across two weekends with the first running from February 6 to February 9. Of course, the outages meant that PS5 players couldn't access the beta or its online features for a essentially third of its runtime, but it seems like Capcom might be making up for it in the future.

Sony itself hasn't fully detailed what caused the issues, although it did state that "network services have fully recovered from an operational issue." To make up for blunder, it's automatically giving "all PlayStation Plus members" an "additional 5 days of service."

Elsewhere in the game, Monster Hunter Wilds fans were delighted to see the return of the nightmarish bug that turns everyone into a PS1-style blob. It didn't come as too much of a surprise since Capcom warned folks ahead of time that improvements made since the first beta wouldn't surface until the game's full release on February 28. However, even the developers were happy to see fans embracing the cursed bug.

Check out the best Monster Hunter Wilds weapons and tier list for the beta.

<![CDATA[ Shogun season 2 scripts are now complete, as production on the hit show aims to being this fall ]]> It's ridiculous how good the first season of Hulu's epic series, Shōgun, actually was. With a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, along with nabbing an incredible 18 Emmys, not to mention four Golden Globe wins, now we're one step closer to finding out if they can recapture that magic for another round. News from the show's co-creator, Justin Marks, reveals that scripts for season 2 are done, dusted, and just waiting to get elegant splashes of blood sprayed across them this year.

While attending the Critics Choice Awards this weekend, Marks explained to Deadline where he and the team are in the creative process, and it all sounds incredibly promising. “We’re coming out of the writers room now. We’re also done with the 10 episodes, and we have our finale now. That’s allowing us to start figuring out how we’re going to shoot this. But we’re very excited about the plan,” Marks revealed. “I think the thing to take away, more than anything, is how, I hope people are going to be surprised with some of the big ideas as soon as the first episode of part two. So, we’ll start there and see where it takes us for future stories. But we’re really excited about it, especially for [Hiroyuki Sanada].”

Speaking of Lord Toranaga himself, Sanada – who walked away with Best Actor in a Drama Series at the event – revealed what was on his wishlist for his character and the show that will be getting a second and third season. “In Season 1, [Toranaga] didn’t become a Shōgun yet. So, I’d like to see him become the leader of Japan. That is my hope.”

Who might help or hinder his character from getting there has yet to be confirmed, but Sanada gave a brief rundown on who will be getting an audience with Lord Toranaga. “We are aiming for the fall of this year, and the writers’ room is working so hard now. We’re going to have half [of the Season 1] cast remaining, and then half new cast coming," Sanada told Variety. "We are finding the best crew for next season now, so I’m excited.” He's not the only one.

<![CDATA[ J.K. Simmons confirms that work has already started on Invincible season 4: "We actually have dipped our toes" ]]> Invincible has only just re-entered our atmosphere with its third season (after obtaining a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, we might add). However, according to the man behind the show's most feared mustaches, production has already begun on its next chapter.

J.K. Simmons, who voices tortured Viltrumite Nolan Grayson, aka Omni-Man, let slip to Collider that work on season 4 for Invincible is in its early stages already. "Yeah, we actually have dipped our toes. Or at least I have into the next season," confessed Simmons. "And I'm looking forward to... I don't know when in the next coming months, but looking forward to getting back in the studio again."

The uninitiated might wonder just how much Simmons' stoic heel-turning hero will be involved in the next season of Invincible, given his current predicament of being held captive in a Viltrumite prison in season 3 of Invincible. Since season 2, he's been left to stew over his past deeds alongside Allen the Alien (Seth Rogen), making for more television gold that Simmons admits he has enjoyed bringing to life.

"Well, it's unexpected, I hope. And I'm always loath to even get close to any spoilers, but I loved the whole season, the whole third season, and, exploring the relationship between Omni-Man and Allen the Alien that, you know, based on the first two seasons, you know, there was a continuing surprise to me." Together, the two are proving to be the buddy story some fans might not have anticipated, but it sounds like Simmons is having a ball recording. "And also getting to play scenes with Seth Rogen was, you know, even though we were never in the room at the same time, I did get to respond to what Seth had already laid down a few times."

You can see how this loveable pair continues to get on as Invincible continues on Thursdays on Prime Video. Also, to get an idea of what's in store, check out what creator Robert Kirkman had to say about characters returning to Invincible season 3 here.

<![CDATA[ Marvel star Anthony Mackie thinks he only has 10 more years playing Captain America: "A 60-year-old Captain America, that'll hurt" ]]> Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson is back reporting for duty this week in Captain America: Brave New World, but according to the man himself, he thinks he'll only be able to carry the iconic shield for another ten years.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Mackie revealed his math behind keeping the mantle of the shield-chucking hero and believes a decade would just about do it. "The 10 years start on the 14th. That's it. After the 14th I got a 10-year run. I'm not trying to be a 60-year-old Captain America. That'll hurt."

Mackie, 46, officially assumed the role of Captain in the finale of Falcon and the Winter Soldier after Steve handed Sam the shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Even then, he was unsure what to make of it, initially predicting that Sam wouldn't make it out of Marvel's massive comic book movie alive.

The new chapter of Sam's career as the star-spangled hero will see him unravel a conspiracy that involves a decorated war hero and the newly appointed president, Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford). That's not the only threat he'll be facing, either. Joining in on the action is Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder, along with Tim Blake Nelson, who will be reprising his role as Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader, after we last saw him in The Incredible Hulk back in 2008.

With such a huge hit list to tackle during his first filmic mission as Cap, Mackie was still enthusiastic about his alter-ego's ability to do this all day, just like his predecessor—most specifically, on the big screen, as opposed to the small. "I think there's something in the idea of Captain America being, people love the nature of these movies, the attitude, the realness, the groundedness of these movies," explained Mackie. "It just works in a cinematic base that I think movies, Captain America deserves to be on the big screen because people love Captain America and that's where they want to see him."

<![CDATA[ The PlayStation Network has been down for 17 hours - and PSN players say even single-player games and disc drives aren't working ]]> The PlayStation Network has been busted for most players for 17 hours, causing problems with online play, the PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Portal.

The official PSN Network Status confirms that issues began to arise on Saturday at 00:00am UK time, and players across PS3, PS Vita, PS4, and PS5 might have problems with account management, signing in, game streaming, game purchasing, and most importantly: playing games.

When online servers go down, most players expect not to be able to play multiplayer games or games that require persistent internet access. However, these outages are also reportedly affecting digital single-player games as modern PlayStation consoles need to verify if you have access to a game's license.

"Can't use this content," the error message reads when trying to boot up digital games on the PS5, including exclusively single-player ones like Metaphor: ReFantazio and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. "Can't connect to the server to verify your license."

Even more curiously, some players are reporting that you can't even connect a disc drive to the all-digital PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro at the moment, meaning that entire physical libraries are seemingly unplayable during these outages. "This is why real physical media and disc drive access is vital," writes one player.

"We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN," PlayStation tweeted with no further follow up.

This comes a week before Sony is expected to hold a State of Play showcase featuring news from Death Stranding 2, which has been teased extensively over the last few days, and the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, which just had a trailer and its release date leaked online.

For now, don’t miss a single exciting release with our new games of 2025 and beyond release calendar.

<![CDATA[ Ex-World of Warcraft designer says the stagnating "meta" in today's RPGs "really sucks," and Marvel Rivals is a good example of how to solve it ]]> Former Blizzard Entertainment developer Chris Kaleiki, who primarily worked as a class designer on evergreen mammoth World of Warcraft for 13 years, is gearing up to release an all-new game with a bunch of other ex-WoW, ex-AAA staff. And, surprisingly, he thought a lot about Marvel Rivals when solving an issue that permeates across many of today's roleplaying games.

Kaleiki now works as the boss of Notorious Studios, prepping the imminent early access release of its first game Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, which is mixing the get-in-get-out PvPvE gameplay of an extraction shooter with more traditional fantasy RPG trappings. It looks really cool, despite the really generic name.

But one problem that was on top of Kaleiki's mind during development was how the "meta" will often stagnate in modern RPGs and players will almost always declare that one character build is the "best for any given situation," he said in an interview with GamesRadar+. He then found some inspiration in the unlikeliest of places.

"The only solution I think is you have to change the meta continually," he continued. "If you look at Marvel Rivals, actually, it's kind of interesting what NetEase did. They have teamups where two heroes get a bonus if they play with each other, like Storm and I think Thor get something... What they're planning to do, which I think is smart, is that every season or every now and then they'll just change them."

NetEase have said that character teamups will rotate in and out every season or so to keep up with the game's evolving story, but also to encourage players to try out new combinations.

"So constantly the meta is shifting on the player, so players constantly have to re-evaluate and think through 'what is best, what is the new meta?' That's the only thing you can really do," he said. "I think players like it and developers like it. League of Legends does the same thing, they flip the board every time they do a season. This hero that was terrible before is now the best. DOTA does the same thing. That's what we've been seeing and I think it actually works pretty well."

Legacy: Steel & Sorcery doesn't have teamups and special heroes to rejig every season, though, so how is it solving the problem? "Probably what we'll do in our game, we've been talking about adding different maps, and we'll have seasons in the game as well," he explained. "That's a whole other thing I learned from WoW about seasons. Maybe this season certain crafting materials are rarer than others and that can make different builds more common because you can create other items easier than you could last season."

Legacy: Steel & Sorcery hits Steam early access on Febrary 12.

For now, don’t miss a single exciting release with our new games of 2025 and beyond release calendar.

<![CDATA[ To celebrate Helldivers 2's first birthday, GM Joel recalls his favorite community moments that are now "canon" and "part of Helldiver lore" ]]> It's hard to believe that we've been spreading democracy and destruction across Helldivers 2's galaxy for an entire year now, and one developer has been behind almost every surprising twist and turn: game master Joel (or J.O.E.L.) To celebrate the breakout shooter's first anniversary, the D&D-style architect is listing his absolute favorite community-driven moments.

"Over the course of the last year of the galactic war, we have, on numerous occasions, been positively surprised by the actions and choices the community have taken," Joel says in a new video embedded below. "Choices that are now canon. That are now part of Helldiver lore for all time."

The first episode in the series recalls The Defense of Mort, an in-game event that tasked the entire community to defend a planet for two whole days. But it makes the list because the Helldiver's eventual victory was only guaranteed in the last few minutes.

Joel remembers that during the start of the galactic war, while humanity were busy squashing bugs, the sly Automaton Legion got aggressive and moved toward Super Earth. For two weeks, the game was full of bot-based defend events. "The Helldivers were somewhat successful in preventing the Automatons from amassing too much, but the one moment where that tide properly turned was on the planet of Mort," the game master recalls. "That 48-hour defend event came down to the last three minutes."

What makes the defense of Mort so memorable for Joel was how the community banded together to turn what was "projected to be a defeat" into a win. You see, the mission was ending on a Tuesday, the same day when Valve usually takes Steam offline for some maintenance, which left all PC Helldivers MIA during a crucial turning point in the war. But across Reddit and Discord and every other social media site, divers saw the clock ticking and rallied together - and it was perhaps the first but definitely not the last time that so many players got behind a unified, self-organized campaign against the odds. Joel calls the feat "the most nail-bitingly close win we had seen up to that point."

<![CDATA[ First The Night Agent season 3 teaser takes us behind the scenes on the hit Netflix show, confirming that it's in production ]]> You don't have to remember a random set of words to get an update on the third season of The Night Agent – Netflix has thankfully just released a juicy morsel themselves.

Following another successful and explosive second season, the streaming service revealed on Twitter that season 3 is in production and will have our top agent, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), once again sprinting down well-lit streets and telling whoever is unfortunate enough to be in the passenger's seat of whatever car he's in to "hang on."

The footage, shot in Istanbul, shows Basso prepping for fight scenes and a chase sequence that we can guarantee will leave his ride with a few scuff marks and probably a dented wing mirror. This secret snippet also comes after Basso told Games Radar+ in an exclusive interview that the first episode had already been shot and that it housed what he deemed "the strongest opening of all seasons."

Understandably, though, that's all the information we're getting regarding Sutherland's next operation. When we last left him, Peter was tasked with a mission by his handler, Catherine Weaver (Amanda Warren), that was so secret, so hush-hush, that there aren't records of it in the Night Action program. In fact, we're expecting red dots to appear on our screens any time now just by typing this.

But while Peter might be off the radar, one person that's off his is his former love interest, Rose (Luciane Buchanan), who decided to call it day in regards to their relationship. For all we know, that chapter is seemingly closed in Sutherland's story (we hope not), and that's exactly how Basso likes it.

"What I love about this show is that it never ends on a cliffhanger that is expecting you to come back. It closes the storylines introduced in that season then at the very end, introduces a new question. But it's not a leave you hanging note, you don't feel like things weren't resolved. I feel really good about where season 2 ends and how season 3 picks up, Shawn [Ryan, showrunner] and the writers pay it off well." To get the full debrief on how season 2 ended, head to our ending explained here.

<![CDATA[ One star is "heartbroken" that they can't return for Twisted Metal season 2 due to scheduling conflicts, teasing that the upcoming instalment is "going to be nuts" ]]> Good video game adaptations – what a concept, right? Besides Fallout, The Last of Us, and the Sonic movies, there's also a surprise hit that everyone pumped their brakes for in the case of Twisted Metal. Debuting its first season in 2023 on Peacock, the show was met with a positive reception from critics and fans alike. So it's great to see that a second season has completed filming. What's not great to see is that one of its stars, Jason Mantzoukas, won't be among those returning.

Starring Anthony Mackie as a delivery guy driving across a scorched USA with all manner of crazed characters on the road, Jason Mantzoukas appeared in the first season to wreck his route a little, playing Preacher. Unfortunately, as revealed by Mantzoukas while attending the Invincible Season 3 premiere (via Collider), schedule issues stopped him from hitting the road again.

"I'm not. And there's no reason, there's no juice to that, it's just that I wasn't able to do it," explained Mantzoukas. "But I know the show is going to be dynamite because I know a bunch of people on it, and I was heartbroken that I couldn't go because they very much wanted me to, and I very much wanted to do it, but it just didn't work out schedule-wise, so I got to know a lot of what is coming, and I think that's going to be nuts."

In addition to Anthony Mackie returning, season 2 will also feature Stephanie Beatriz reprising her role as Quiet and Will Arnett voicing Sweet Tooth, the unhinged clown who will be physically portrayed on screen by WWE star Samoa Joe.

Joining them for the ride this time will also be the new addition of Barry and Superman star Anthony Carrigan as Calypso. He'll bring more rage to the road as the iconic video game character and villain at the head of the death races the franchise is known for but was absent in the first season. <![CDATA[ Nosferatu director Robert Eggers says that his upcoming werewolf horror movie is "the darkest thing" he's "ever written" ]]> If Robert Eggers' claims are true, the werewolf movie he's working on could make Count Orlok look like the Count from Sesame Street. While attending a Q&A session at the Lincoln Center, the director of Nosferatu revealed a little bit more about what he had in store for his next meeting with one of cinema's most iconic monsters, which should do enough to have fans howling.

Caught by a fan on Twitter, Eggers teased, "It's a medieval werewolf movie. It's also the darkest thing I've ever written, by far." Considering this is coming from the man who turned Bill Skarsgård into a character that could give Pennywise a run for his money, we're unsure if we even want to believe him.

It's proving challenging to sniff many details out regarding Werwulf. What's known so far is that it's set in the 16th century and, according to Eggers' go-to cinematographer, Jarin Blaschke, will create a style for the creature that has never been caught on film. "I can’t tell you a thing," promised Blaschke. "But it’s something that’s not been done before that I’m aware of or not done in this way. So [we’re] just going to test it and see if it works."

Regarding the script, Eggers has also enlisted the talents of the Icelandic poet Sjón, who co-wrote his chilling Viking epic, The Northman. It's not the only project they are working on together, as it was recently announced that Eggers is heading into the more family-friendly territory of a long-awaited sequel to Labyrinth. We can only hope both will presumably star Willem Dafoe, but only one might have him dancing to David Bowie's Magic Dance, which sounds so good it's scary. Alternatively, you can get lost in our great pitch for a dark Labyrinth sequel here.

<![CDATA[ Star of scrapped Coyote vs. Acme movie says it makes his "blood boil" that the film was canceled: "I would understand if the thing sucked, but it's really good" ]]> When Warner Bros. said, "That's all, folks," to Coyote vs. Acme, the internet bounced back, demanding that the live-action Looney Tunes movie finally see its day on the big screen. Unfortunately, the studio didn't budge from shelving the project to take a $30 million tax write-off, and now one of the film's stars, Nick Forte, has spoken out about the decision.

“My thoughts were that it’s fucking bullshit,” the actor told MovieWeb, backing the film that the rest of the world will never see. “It is such a delightful movie. It deserves so much better than it got. I can’t tell you possibly why the decision was made to not release it. But it makes my blood boil.”

In the film, Forte plays a down-on-his-luck human attorney who partners up with Wile E. Coyote for a lawsuit of the century. Tired of ACME products failing to do their job in capturing his longtime target, the Road Runner, Wile E. attempts to file a case against the mega corporation for all his years of trauma and presumably the bulk buying of sandwich board signs that have "HELP!" on them. The film also starred John Cena and Lana Condor.

Pleased to hear that the world hadn't forgotten about this now archived animation, Forte said, “Thank you for asking me about it because I like talking about the movie because I don’t want people to forget what [Warner Bros.] did to this,” The whole experience certainly sounds like a bittersweet one that he's still understandably sore over. “I appreciate them letting us make it, but don’t let us make this thing that we fall in love with and then not show it. I would understand if the thing sucked, but it’s really good. Maybe, somehow, we get to see it at some point. I hope people do. I was really proud of it.”

Coyote vs. Acme wasn't the only film to sink to the depths of the Warner Bros. water tower. Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt, which promised some festive frights, also got tucked away, all in a business deal Forte confesses isn't his territory.

“Look, when it comes to Hollywood business stuff, I don’t know shit about shit. Even when a movie tests very well (like ours), there’s no guarantee that it’s gonna be a hit,” he added. “And at the end of the day, the people who paid for this movie can obviously do whatever they want with it. It doesn’t mean I have to like it (I fucking hate it). Or agree with it. And it doesn’t mean that this movie is anything less than magnificent.” We believe you, Forte. It's just a shame that your poor Coyote pal's run of bad luck didn't stop with his very own film. Meep-meep. <![CDATA[ Martin Scorsese reveals that he's a huge fan of Nosferatu and director Robert Eggers too: "Anything this guy does, amazing" ]]> It's official. Robert Eggers is a bloody good director after legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese praised his recent trip to Transylvania with Nosferatu.

Speaking to TCM’s Dave Karger about his career and the films, both past and present, that have inspired him, Scorsese discussed his love for horror. Karger asked the Goodfellas director if he had seen Eggers' latest vampire flick, echoing much of what critics and audiences have already said about the movie. "It’s amazing. Anything this guy does, amazing. And that's one [film] you don’t do much after seeing. You’re still in the world. You’re in Transylvania, and it’s really, [laughs] whoa. Man, he’s something."

Over the past few years, Scorsese has been quick to back the genre that he's never really spent much time in. Films like Cape Fear, Bringing Out the Dead, and Shutter Island have all had thin strands of horror running through their veins, but it seems he prefers to let others scare folks in the theater aisles. One notable fright fest that caught his attention in the last decade was Hereditary, which Scorsese described in a Q&A back in 2019 as "Disturbing, there's no doubt, it's a horror film in that way. But it's more than that. It reminds me of the best of horror films."

Hopefully, after Eggers' encounter with Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård), Scorsese will be first in line to see the Nosferatu director's next horror film, Werwulf. Set in the 16th century, the film promises to be another pulse-pounding take on a classic monster, which Eggers' go-to cinematographer Jarin Blaschke has described as something "that’s not been done before." Well, maybe. But we might wait for Scorsese to verify that, seeing as he's watched just about everything. Speaking of the man himself, check out our ranking of the 10 best Scorsese movies here. Yeah, we're talking to you.

<![CDATA[ 13-year WoW vet left Blizzard for the indie life because "I didn't really feel like a game developer in some way," agrees it's harder for AAA giants to "maintain this connection to the player" ]]> Chris Kaleiki, a 13-year World of Warcraft veteran developer now in charge of Notorious Studios, has explained why he left the AAA space to make smaller games.

Kaleiki recently sat down with GamesRadar+ for a comprehensive talk about Notorious Studios' debut game, Legacy: Steel & Sorcery, which he bills as a AA game sitting somewhere between indie and AAA. The conversation frequently gravitated toward some of the key distinctions, in Kaleiki's view, between indie, AAA, and that nebulous space in between the two. Those distinctions played a big part in his decision to leave Blizzard back in 2020.

"When you're a game developer in AAA, you're doing all the things that game developers do, like design and put stuff into the game and iterate, but it's a very different experience to what we're doing now, which is starting our own game and working from scratching, starting up all the foundations and creating philosophies and pillars of what we should be doing for the game," he said.

It sounds to me like a big reason Kaleiki left Blizzard was due to the heavy compartmentalizing of developers into specific teams working on very specific parts of the game, leaving them without a comprehensive understanding of what's being made.

"I saw the studio model and their motivations and what kind of games we wanted to make were changing," Kaleiki explained. "I thought, 'I haven't really changed much but the studio has,' and that's kind of why I left.

"Like I was saying earlier, I didn't really feel like a game developer in some way. I felt like I was a World of Warcraft class designer or game designer, but I didn't really know the full gambit of the entire game development process, which I do know now."

Kaleiki also agreed with us that "it becomes harder for these larger AAA studios to maintain this connection to the player as they grow, because it becomes a challenge of scale."

Distilled into the simplest possible terms, the concept for Legacy: Steel & Sorcery is an RPG that plays like "World PvP: The Game" and feels like a mini MMO channeling "early Blizzard." It's due to hit Steam Early Access on February 12.

In the meantime, here are the best MMOs you can play right now.

<![CDATA[ Diablo creator rips into modern ARPGs for being all about "killing screen-fulls of things instantly," says Diablo 2's pacing "is great" and "that’s one of the reasons it’s endured" ]]> David Brevik, lead designer on the original Diablo game and the person most often credited for the ARPG series' creation, isn't a big fan of modern ARPGs.

Talking to VideoGamer, Brevik railed against the blistering pace of much newer ARPGs. Naturally, he didn't name any specific examples, but I mean, it's pretty obvious that he's referencing Diablo 4 and, perhaps, Path of Exile 2.

"I think that ARPGs in general have started to lean into this: kill swaths of enemies all over the place extremely quickly,” Brevik said. "Your build is killing all sorts of stuff so you could get more drops, you can level up, and the screen is littered with stuff you don’t care about."

Of course, Diablo has always been about clicking things to death and not a whole lot more, and I say that with extreme fondness for the series as someone whose first online obsession was the original Diablo. That said, Brevik seemed to be arguing that it's the pace of the death clicks that was slower and more deliberate back when he was at Blizzard.

"I don’t find that as kind of personal and realistic as like Diablo 2. The pacing on Diablo 2, I think is great," he said. "That's one of the reasons it's endured. I just don't find killing screen-fulls of things instantly and mowing stuff down and walking around the level and killing everything, very enticing. I just don't feel like that is a cool experience. I find it kind of silly."

As someone who plays and mostly enjoys Diablo 4, I get where Brevik is coming from. There's definitely something to be said for the older Diablos' restraint in terms of enemy density and player builds that helps foster a thicker, more mellow, more immersive atmosphere.

Brevik left Blizzard in 2003 and would eventually take on a role as advisor for the Chinese version of Path of Exile, Diablo's most direct competitor. He later started up Graybeard games and released a new action-RPG called It Lurks Below to positive reviews.

DRM-free store GOG launches a new way for fans to influence which games get preserved "forever," and players are going to bat for Diablo 2, OG Final Fantasy 7, and a pile of cult classics.

<![CDATA[ Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 dev says the original RPG attracted an audience "sort of like Euro Truck Simulator," with "quite a lot of people who never play games" ]]> Game development is flourishing in the Czech Republic, and among the county's most notable dev houses are Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 developer Warhorse Studios and truck sim developer SCS Software. You might not think those studios have much in common, but even as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 reaches massive heights, Warhorse is still looking to catch up with SCS.

"[SCS Software has] a ginormous, huge audience and extremely dedicated fans," Warhorse global PR manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling tells GamesRadar+. "And they have the nicest offices here from all the game studios. They've built up their own Silicon Valley kind of thing. We're not there yet. They have way more developers than we do. The Czech gaming industry is flourishing, and KCD maybe helps to spread some love and whatnot, and maybe motivate some new studios to come up."

As Warhorse figures, their similarities with SCS might actually go beyond their country of origin. "In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, we attracted quite a lot of people who never play games, which is sort of unique," senior game designer Ondřej Bittner says. "It's sort of like Euro Truck Simulator – a lot of people who play Euro Truck Simulator don't play other games. So we interact with a lot of people who love history, or fencing, or historical martial arts, or whatever, and they didn't have a problem with most of the mechanics."

Bittner is alluding here to KCD's more divisive mechanics, like its limited save system - something players who are coming for the RPG's grounded historical focus don't seem to mind. Similarly, I doubt too many people are banging down SCS Software's door hoping to transform Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator into high-speed arcade racing games. It pays to understand your niche, and unlikely as it may seem that's something these two Czech studios have in common.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's developer knew it couldn't "repeat the Eurojank" of the first game – and as sales soar, Warhorse is having a Witcher 3 moment.

<![CDATA[ Fatal Fury's top anime girlfriend Mai "bounces" into Street Fighter 6, and her bouncy arrival is driving Capcom to horny madness: "She's giving fierce. She's slaying" ]]> Fatal Fury femme fatale Mai Shiranui recently joined Street Fighter 6 as one of the fighting game series' first guest characters, and her winsome existence seems to have made developer Capcom suddenly develop a worm in its brain and, uh, elsewhere.

It seems like all of Street Fighter's social media accounts have temporarily paused posting quotidian, asexual things like updates, bug fixes, etc. in order to collapse to their knees and start barking like untrained puppies. On TikTok, Capcom posts romantic footage of Mai's – let's face it – giant boobs – defying gravity as she leaps into a backflip amid cherry blossoms to the tune of Kelis' "Milkshake."

"Mai's milkshake brings all her foes to the yard," Capcom declares in the caption. Sure, Capcom, just her "foes." On Twitter, Capcom again references the song – which is about tits, ass, or any number of sexual acts, depending on who you ask – saying Mai "can teach you, but she'll have to charge."

Right. So, I've been noticing that Capcom is trying to be sneaky about all its barely veiled innuendos, following up winky references to how Mai is obviously so hot, it's an evolutionary innovation, with references to or footage of her seamless combat skill. That said, the developer is doing an embarrassing job of acting coy. Its pheromones are gushing like water from a fire hydrant. I can hear its horny wailing from like, three Street Fighters away.

"Play Mai for two reasons," Capcom says on Twitter, "ninja trickery and aerial attacks." OK, sure. "She's giving fierce. She's slaying," the developer says in another post.

But what am I supposed to make of Capcom's January announcement that "Mai from Fatal Fury promises to warm you up when she bounces in to #StreetFighter6 on February 5. Don't keep her waiting," with a fire emoji at the end? Capcom has even added more replay mechanics with its Mai update, allowing players to pause more easily. I have an idea: how about you all pause and look inward?

<![CDATA[ Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 dev says the RPG is a "welcoming" hardcore game, and he "can never understand" how people play Elden Ring: "I'm just not good at the combat" ]]> Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is the latest in a growing line of RPGs that revel in friction, purposefully asking players difficult questions and throwing them curveballs both narratively and mechanically. Senior game designer Ondřej Bittner of developer Warhorse Studios reckons the game is "quite welcoming" as hardcore games go, but defends its mechanical complexity and reckons that dense games with bite are "good for the industry and for the players" over massive but repetitive games.

"I think the mechanics you're describing – a little more involved gameplay – falls around the fact that players may be finally [realizing] that it doesn't really matter how long a game is," Bittner tells GamesRadar+. "What matters is if your individual sessions are individual enough. If a game is 150 hours and all of your sessions are the same, you're gonna get bored. A little more involved mechanics [means] more original content."

It's neighboring an old topic that's seen an uptick in debate recently: are games too dang long? Several well-known executives and designers have argued that extremely long games are out of place or outright fatiguing today. The question becomes: are games too long, or are some long games simply running out of ideas long before the credits roll? If they had more gas in the tank, more unique experiences to bring out, that long runtime may feel justified; players may be excited to have more of this thing they love, rather than fatigued by the long familiar road ahead of them.

Bittner offers an example of what sessions may look like in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – a unique adventure erratically strung together from boot theft, bar hopping, bandit hunting, and murder mystery. "Because these are vastly different, you don't get bored," he says of the experience.

"And it doesn't really matter if it's like 100 hours or 50," he continues. "And that goes for games like Elden Ring and all that. You know, with all the secrets. Elden Ring is kind of simple mechanics, but it's so involved in the levels of where you can go and what you can discover. Or Zelda games which, on the other hand, have the awesome mechanics and stuff. So I think this is good for the industry and for the players, that the entertainment is more qualitative than certain titles that are just very repetitive."

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is an unflinching RPG, ready and willing to kick you with steel-toed consequences, but Bittner reckons it's also approachable. The goal with the sequel was to "keep the complexity, keep all the living world that can tell the emergent stories, but make it more accessible so we can break out of the niche and be like, hey, this is for everyone. You can do it. Everyone can enjoy it. After all, the game is not hard to play, because you can always do it somehow differently."

He compares this to the demands of a game like Elden Ring, which also gives players plenty of ways to overcome challenges, but sets a high minimum for what you have to do to progress. You can beat that boss however you like, but you do have to beat it and it's still very challenging. Bittner's experience with Elden Ring is an interesting example of how some games just don't click for you even if you recognize what makes them great. FromSoftware's flavor of action has been especially polarizing over the years – at GamesRadar+ alone, we have writers who love it (me) and folks who find it impenetrable.

"I'd say I can't play Elden Ring because I'm just not good at the combat and that's all there is," Bittner says. "It's super hardcore for me and I can never understand how people can play it. But I think Kingdom Come is way more, like, you can just walk around and wear nice clothes, and you can do it, you know. So I think it's actually quite a welcoming hardcore game."

This approach, a refinement of the first game's philosophy, has certainly resonated with players. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 sold 1 million copies and recouped its development costs within a day, per Warhorse co-founder Daniel Vávra.

<![CDATA[ Cobra Kai stars talk fan theories and share the incredible prank one Karate Kid legacy actor pulled off on set: "I believed him pretty much the whole season" ]]> Cobra Kai star Mary Mouser admits to reading fan theories - and one led to an onset prank involving Peyton List and one of the franchise's legacy actors.

"I entertain myself a lot and then I end up telling [the cast] about this stuff and they all just sit there and go, okay. But I'm like, did you guys see that?" Mouser tells GamesRadar+. "I feel like the most fan theories that came out were when we were doing the season four tournament. There were a lot of theories to like what people, who people thought was gonna win, who was fighting for what dojo to what degree. And I think the most fun part for sure is when they get it almost right. When they get it almost right. They do it a lot with Tory's dad."

In the series, which takes place in the Karate Kid universe, Mouser plays Sam LaRusso, the daughter of Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and his wife Amanda (Courtney Henggeler). List plays Tory, who, follows a similar arc to Johnny Lawrence and becomes corrupted by Kreese - the sensei who negatively influences and effectively traumatizes Johnny in The Karate Kid 2. It's ultimately Terry Silver, the antagonist of The Karate Kid 3 who also becomes a sensei at Cobra Kai, who makes Tory feel used and unintentionally pushes her to leave the dojo and join Miyagi-Do with Sam.

"Yeah, they pranked me on set," List reveals. "Thomas, who plays Terry Silver, he told me, oh yeah, 'They're writing it that I'm your father [in season four]. And so I believed him for pretty much that whole season. I thought that was really farfetched, but Thomas Ian Griffith is] so believable when he commits to a bit - he’s so genuine."

Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 hits Netflix on February 13. For more, check out our lists of the best Netflix shows and the best Netflix movies to stream right now.

<![CDATA[ Hideo Kojima quietly reveals 10 seconds of new Death Stranding 2 footage as what looks like the next trailer goes to "main sound mixing" ]]> I sure wasn't expecting Hideo Kojima to just casually drop some new Death Stranding 2: On the Beach footage on Twitter here on a random Friday, but he's gone and done exactly that. It looks like the new trailer we've all been waiting for is inching ever closer.

This is an extended version of a scene we previously saw in the State of Play trailer last January, where Sam and Fragile are discussing a mysterious benefactor who Sam doesn't trust. "We've both been used and lied to before, it's true," Fragile responds in this extended cut. "But as long as they keep up their end, I won't pry."

I've seen some discussion from fans that Fragile's face model might be improved from its previous presentation throughout the clip, more closely matching actor Léa Seydoux's actual appearance, but it's a bit tough to tell in this grainy, off-screen presentation.

Kojima notes that this is part of "main sound mixing with London," which seems to effectively confirm previous speculation that he's been teasing a new Death Stranding 2 trailer on social media over the past few days. There have been various rumblings about a new PlayStation State of Play event in the near future, and that'd certainly be a solid place to debut the next look at Death Stranding 2.

The previous Death Stranding 2 trailer noted that the game was set to launch in 2025. Here's hoping the next trailer reconfirms that window and narrows it down just a little.

Death Stranding 2 actors are finishing filming and getting gifts from Hideo Kojima, but "the game still remains in development," so don't expect it out any time soon.

<![CDATA[ "I still have a job to do": Balatro creator says selling 5 million copies hasn't really changed his lifestyle, and he's focused on updates instead of new games ]]> Despite single-handedly making one of the most successful indie games of 2024 and selling more than five million copies, the creator of roguelike poker sensation Balatro hasn't let success change his lifestyle much.

Talking to Bloomberg, the solo developer who goes by LocalThunk revealed he's been able to quit his job in IT and buy a house with his partner thanks to the success of Balatro, but, otherwise LocalThunk's life has been relatively unaffected by his newfound wealth.

"It's been a lot of stress, but very fulfilling, being able to walk on something that I love all day, every day, as long as I want," LocalThunk said. "We'd been living below our means anyway when I had that IT job, so our lifestyle hasn't changed all that much. I travel a little more so I can visit friends. I'm just trying to be responsible right now with anything. I still have a job to do."

Without a day job keeping him preoccupied, LocalThunk is able to dedicate his work day to making updates for Balatro. In the same Bloomberg interview, he revealed he's working on Balatro update 1.1, which will add new Jokers and a revamp of the confusing Matador Joker. That, he hopes, will be out sometime this year.

As for what's next for LocalThunk post-Balatro, he's not quite there yet, telling Bloomberg he gets "obsessed with something for a long time." Although he admitted he's had ideas for other games, he said, every time his mind goes to new games, he thinks, "'you can't do that right now, you're in the middle of something else.'"

After an unbeatable year for Balatro, we asked a professional poker player to break down what makes the indie roguelike so good.

<![CDATA[ Tony Stark teams up with Red Guardian and the Winter Guard to take on Doctor Doom in Iron Man #6 ]]> Doctor Doom is now the master of the world, and many of the planet's leaders seem to be fine with it. But Iron Man certainly has something to say, and his current title is about to kick off a whole new arc that ties into Doom's conquest as Sorcerer Supreme.

In 'Stark Insurgent,' Tony Stark will launch his own offensive against Doom, but he's not going in alone. Rather than having the Avengers at his side, though, Stark's recruiting the Winter Guard, Russia's resident super-team.

We've got a preview of unlettered interior pages from Iron Man #6 by writer Spencer Ackerman, artist Julius Ohta, and color artist Alex Sinclair showing off Stark's meeting with the Winter Guard, in this case consisting of Red Guardian, Ursa Major, Crimson Dynamo, and Red Widow.

<![CDATA[ Monster Hunter Wilds devs know players love the beta's buggy origami monsters: "It was a nice thing to see that people were enjoying it in a way that they were having fun" ]]> The second Monster Hunter Wilds beta has begun, and although Arkveld and Gypceros have been added in as new monsters to hunt, this vertical slice of the game doesn't have the technical polish or balance changes that Capcom has cooked up since the first beta. Heck, it's noticeably behind the build we played for our Monster Hunter Wilds hands-on preview last year. Consequently, the same old beta bugs have come up again, but at this point many players are actually happy to see the now-beloved low-poly monsters back to their old hijinks – and the folks making the game are happy you like them.

In the first beta, PC players found that, seemingly due to GPU bottlenecks or loading issues (depending on your rig), monsters and characters in Monster Hunter Wilds would occasionally end up lacking, well, dimensions. In most cases, there'd be missing textures or large details, but severe examples can cough up flailing oblong chimeras that make the Fighting Polygon Team from Super Smash Bros. look certifiably high-def.

These monstrosities were quickly nicknamed origami monsters and even spawned their own fanart, not to mention mods for other Monster Hunter games deliberately recreating the blocky look. This kind of issue wouldn't be nearly as funny in the full game, but some players have expressed hopes to see event quests in Wilds commemorating the beta's iconic origami mons.

Now seemed like a good time to share a fun anecdote from a previous exchange I had with Monster Hunter producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, Wilds art and executive director Kaname Fujioka, and Wilds director Yuya Tokuda. In a group interview, I asked if they'd seen all the players having fun with origami monster memes and mods, and how it feels to see the beta's brokenness celebrated in this way. I compared the low-poly beasts to the original PS2 Monster Hunter – if anything, they're much more retro – and as the question was relayed in Japanese by our interpreter, the group fell into laughter cut with just the tiniest bit of the resignation that's born from technical issues.

"They were aware of how people were experiencing some of the low polygons and having their fun with it," our interpreter explained, focusing on Fujioka's response to begin with. "It was a nice thing to see that people were enjoying it in a way that they were having fun with it."

Relaying Tsujimoto's response, the interpreter continued: "But obviously we would recommend people do play and get the full experience on the PC with the recommended PC specs that we have stated out there. Obviously, when you play on the PC, the specs vary widely depending on what kind of environment you have, so our suggestion is for people to please play on the recommended specs to get the full experience. But it's nice to know that some people are enjoying or having fun with Monster Hunter Wilds."

As it happens, those PC specs have been reduced slightly after some optimization on Capcom's end. Monster Hunter Wilds isn't a lightweight game by any means, and in early performance tests using the new benchmark tool, it seems to be CPU-limited just like Monster Hunter World was, but running it is now a slightly less daunting task. The PC performance of the full game remains to be seen, however. Again, don't let the outdated beta build throw you off, but don't put too much stock in the benchmark tool's limited scenarios either.

Monster Hunter Wilds saved some big surprises for the second beta: "online single player," Gore Magala, a new monster, and photo mode.

<![CDATA[ After nearly 20 years, beloved manga Kingdom is finally getting an official English release due to fan demand ]]> One of the most beloved manga that has never been officially translated into English is finally coming to the US and other English-speaking markets after nearly 20 years, as VIZ Media has announced that Yasuhisa Hara's magnum opus Kingdom will finally be imported due to monstrous demand from fans.

Kingdom has been running in Japan in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine since January 2006 and has sold 110 million copies, ultimately giving rise to an anime adaptation, two live-action films, and multiple video games.

The story is set in China in the Warring States era, and centers on young warrior Xin in his quest to bring China together. So far, in Japan, Kingdom has released 79 volumes.

"Offering readers a thrilling window into one of the most transformative periods in Chinese history, Kingdom is set during China’s Warring States period and follows Xin, a war orphan from the kingdom of Qin, who dreams of becoming a great general and uniting China," reads VIZ's official description of Kingdom. "After his closest friend, Piao, dies under mysterious circumstances, Xin embarks on a journey to fulfill their shared dream. Along the way, he meets Ying Zheng, a young king bearing a striking resemblance to Piao, who seeks Xin’s help to reclaim his throne and change the course of history."

VIZ previously described Kingdom as "our most fan requested title ever," so its English debut has been met with quite some fervor.

VIZ is kicking things off with Kingdom Vol. 1, releasing November 11, 2025. Kingdom Vol. 1 will also be available on VIZ's Shonen Jump digital reading service concurrently with the physical releases of the English language edition.

<![CDATA[ Helldivers 2's new Fallout-grade mini nuke Ultimatum is a 4,500-damage delete button that's already got the community debating whether it's OP ]]> Helldivers 2 fans have a new weapon to fight about in the form of the GP-31 Ultimatum, a 4,500 damage monster that effectively serves as a delete button for some of the game's most troublesome targets. Like clockwork, it's ignited a debate over whether or not it's too dang OP.

Introduced as part of the Helldivers 2 Servants of Freedom Warbond, the Ultimatum is a secondary weapon described as "a pistol front-loaded with a single, powerful explosive. The weight of the projectile limits the weapon's range." Simply calling it a "powerful explosive" might be understating things, though, as this is basically a mini-nuke along the lines of what you might see in a Fallout game.

The Ultimatum is indeed a bit hard to aim, as you've got to work hard to correct for its arcing flight path, but if you hit just about any target it's immediately done for. That even goes for notoriously sturdy objective targets like Detector Towers, Jammers, Science Labs, Fabricators, and more.

You only need a quick browse through the Helldivers 2 subreddit to see that the Ultimatum is the hot-button topic of the moment, though the war is admittedly a bit lopsided. There are a handful of players suggesting that its power to destroy objectives is a bit much for a secondary weapon, and many, many more preemptively trying to shut down any idea of a potential nerf while suggesting that the weapon is perfectly balanced as it is.

Balance is a tricky topic to unpack in any multiplayer game, so I guess we'll see what Arrowhead decides to do, but with a cooperative PVE-focused title like Helldivers 2 it's difficult to say anything beyond "mini-nuke go brrrrrrrrrrr."

<![CDATA[ The Cobra Kai cast was never worried about skepticism from diehard Karate Kid fans: “The franchise as a whole has been completely behind us” ]]> Cobra Kai stars Mary Mouser and Gianni DeCenzo say they weren't worried at all about initial negative reception to the Karate Kid revival series.

"I didn't even realize that it was gonna be like, it was being scrutinized until people saw it and they were like, 'Oh my God, I thought it was gonna be trash' ," DeCenzo tells GamesRadar+. "It's like, oh, glad it wasn't. I would've been way more scared going into the first season if I knew, but we passed the trash barrier. We did it. We're not trash. Are you proud now, Mom? "

The series, which picks up some 40 years after the first Karate Kid film, sees longtime rivals Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) start dojos of their own and train a new generation of martial artists. DeCenzo plays Demetri Alexopoulos, tech genius and best friend of nerd-turned-bully-turned-hero Eli 'Hawk' Moskowitz (Jacob Bertrand). Mouser plays Sam LaRusso, Daniel's daughter.

The 2010 Karate Kid reboot starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan received mixed reviews, and was the last entry in the franchise before Cobra Kai popped up as a YouTube RED series in 2018. Netflix quickly scooped up the show and turned it into one of the streaming giant's biggest hits. Since its inception, the series has included countless cameos from actors from and has made sure to stay true to the initial Karate Kid trilogy.

"I definitely feel like the franchise, as a whole, has been completely behind us. It's true, though. I don't think we were ever in a negative position in which people voiced to us that they thought wished us bad or wished us ill or thought it was going to blow up in our faces," Mouser explains. "But I have loved that since we've kind of gotten to prove our medal, we've never lost that core fan base. We've gotten to grow and bring people to the original franchise. I'm a fan girl myself for a lot of different things and have been a part of fandoms where people aren't that welcoming of new fans where they're like, 'No, you weren't here for day one,' or, 'You don't know the hardships as a fan of blah blah blah.' Right? We don't have that, which has been wonderful because it means that we've gotten to have like just open arms from us to the fandom as it grows and from the fandom to us, which I'm really grateful for."

<![CDATA[ Avowed won't have enemy scaling, director confirms, but it will have jank: "You gotta accept a little jank to do something fun and creative" ]]> We are very close to reaching the end of the rainbow with Avowed's impending release, but Obsidian game director Carrie Patel wants you to have reasonable expectations: no, Avowed won't have enemy scaling, though it sounds like the game may feature some jank.

"Enemies do not scale with your level," Patel puts it plainly in a new rapid-fire interview with MinnMax. This might surprise you – level scaling is becoming more common, evidenced by RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077 and Diablo 4 – but I'm looking forward to exploring Avowed's dangerous cliffsides with the knowledge that power is power. One of the most liberating feelings I've experienced involves returning to a game like Dark Souls' starting area, as overleveled as a grass-fed cow, and chewing up everything in my path.

Less surprising than the game's lack of level scaling, however, is the fact that Avowed might have some bugs at launch. Big, buggy launches, such as Civilization 7's recent stumble into the spotlight, have seemingly become synonymous with AAA gaming.

That said, bugs have always been part of gaming, and some people have always been huffy about it. In their defense, I don't think anyone has ever outright enjoyed paying for a game and finding out it's easier to break than glass. In 2009, a younger GamesRadar+ even reported on the fact that the EU was proposing a law that would secure refunds for broken video game releases.

But, if we ignore gamers' rights for just a second, we can recognize that most unique, new products aren't flawless at first. To that point, Patel thinks jank is unavoidable while taking risks.

"You gotta accept a little jank to do something fun and creative," Patel tells MinnMax. We'll find out how "fun and creative" Avowed is when it releases on February 18.

Avowed director confirms the game follows The Outer Worlds' lead to skip New Game Plus, but DLC is still a "maybe."

<![CDATA[ Sigourney Weaver hopes James Cameron watches upcoming sci-fi movie The Gorge because Anya Taylor-Joy’s heroine reminds her of a certain Avatar character ]]> Sigourney Weaver is no stranger to playing a sci-fi heroine (hey Ripley), but as Anya Taylor-Joy takes that role in the duo’s upcoming movie The Gorge, the Alien star says Taylor-Joy needed no guidance at all.

"Anya Taylor-Joy needs no tips for me to play anything," Weaver tells GamesRadar+. "Drasa, as played by Anya is particularly unique. And she just goes for it. She just plays the hell out of it, and has, I think, great fun doing it."

Weaver adds that Taylor-Joy’s highly skilled and fearless Lithuanian sniper character "is really a badass." So much so, that she reminds her of a strong Na’vi woman from James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. "I hope Jim sees The Gorge because I think he'll appreciate the character of Drasa a lot," says Weaver. "You know, he's been so ahead of his time creating these amazing characters like Neytiri. I think Drasa is very much in that tradition."

Sigourney Weaver in The Gorge

Weaver starred as Kiri in Avatar and Avatar: The Way of the Water, and looks to be returning for further movies in the franchise too including Avatar 3. Who knows, maybe Taylor-Joy could be the next star to join Cameron’s hit fantasy franchise. She is most definitely capable enough, and no one knows that more than Weaver who adds, "I've admired her work since I saw her in The Witch and then in Queens Gambit. I think there's really nothing she can do."

Starring Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller, the Gorge follows two highly-trained operatives appointed to guard opposite watchtowers overlooking a misty and mysterious gorge. But as the pair protect the world from the evil that lurks beneath, the two start to form a bond. The genre-bending horror slash sci-fi slash romance movie co-stars Weaver as a no-nonsense woman in charge of sending snipers to the gorge.

The Gorge premieres globally on Apple TV Plus on Friday, February 14, 2025. For more, check out our list of the best movies on Apple TV Plus, or keep up with upcoming horror movies heading your way.

<![CDATA[ As the Final Fantasy 14 devs "continue to take a firm stance" against mods that can enable harassment, Yoshi-P says improvements are starting in patch 7.2 ]]> Final Fantasy 14 got a selection of new blacklist features in Dawntrail aimed at helping players deal with in-game stalkers, but the backend details of those features led to the creation of some exploitative mods that some community members have feared might make the problem even worse. Now, Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida says the devs are working on fixes in time for the upcoming patch 7.2.

You can read our previous coverage on the exploit for more details on how it works, but in short, the new blacklist means that when you block a character, you now block all characters tied to an account. That function is facilitated by the fact that servers now broadcast an account ID for all the characters you come into contact with. This isn't visible to players, but if the right mods were created, you could collect account ID information and start building a list of every character tied to a given player's account.

A mod that did exactly this soon went public, and, while it's since been driven underground, players came to fear that stalkers would use the information generated by this mod to create alternate accounts and start harassing a target's alternate characters.

A few weeks after these concerns started taking hold, Yoshi-P put out a public statement noting that the devs "will continue to take a firm stance against" the usage of third-party mods, and were exploring both "requesting that the tool in question be removed and deleted" and "pursuing legal action."

In today's Letter from the Producer broadcast (which was entirely in Japanese, but helpfully translated by the folks at the unofficial FF14 Discord), Yoshi-P reiterated some of the details from that previous statement, reconfirming that no personal information – such as address or payment information – could be accessed by the tool.

Nonetheless, Yoshi-P said "I am very disappointed that this kind of tool exists, but we will be improving the system going forward," according to that fan translation. These improvements – which the devs are remaining vague about for now – will start to land in the upcoming patch 7.2, which promises to be the biggest Dawntrail update yet.

"It's simply impossible": Final Fantasy 14 lead explains why the MMO's difficulty level will never be "just right" for all players.

<![CDATA[ From farming sims to cat-collecting games, Steam's Idler Fest promises to fill your desktop with stuff that totally won't hurt your productivity ]]> Idle games are all the rage as of late because who doesn't wanna play games while also, let's say, surfing for online sales, replying to emails, or getting lost in AITA Reddit posts about scandalous affairs and in-law drama. Valve's now boosting games that sit on the fringes of your desktop with the ongoing Steam Idler Fest, an event featuring tons of demos and deals for laidback sims of all kinds.

The Steam Idler Fest is live right now and runs through February 10. As always with the storefront's genre-specific celebrations, you could lose hours just scrolling through everything that's had its price tag slashed, so here's a few recommendations from moi.

Rusty's Retirement is probably the one that most people are familiar with. It's essentially a Stardew Valley that plays itself, so, no surprise it's racked up over 10,000 overwhelmingly positive Steam reviews. Rusty lives alone at the bottom of your screen and it's your job to help him develop a flourishing, automated farm that becomes ever-complicated (and profitable).

Sticking with the 'lonely animals that farm' vibes, we have Ropuka's Idle Island, which sees an isolated frog-person repeat a chill Groundhog Day. Ropuka lives on a floating island and does nothing but cut grass, nap to recharge stamina, and repeat. It's quite horrifying when you think about it for too long. So don't think, because Ropuka's an otherwise great companion and you can decorate his adorable little home with the grass he gathers. Plus, the lo-fi beats oozing out from the island are perfect if you're looking for something to help you focus - he's sweating away while I bring you this very news, in fact.

I'd also recommend My Little Life, which is a largely condensed management game that came out on the very same day as The Sims re-releases and features a lot of the same quirks. You can't trap your little digital friend inside four walls, delete the door, and watch as they slowly die, sadly, but you can help them progress through the happier stages in life. Decorating a home. Finding companionship. Working through a sustainable career - and that's almost as fun as summoning the grim reaper.

Not all idle games exist on your desktop, however. Chillquarium has you collecting fish and selling them to turn a profit, while Chonkers makes you adopt cats, feed them until they're laughably chonky, and then find them a good home. Then, for all the Baldur's Gate 3 lovers, there's Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, a management RPG featuring characters from across the D&D canon.

Steam Idler Fest has discounts and/or highlights all of the above, plus so many more, and also has a page for upcoming idlers you might want to wishlist. Check it out.

For more, keep an eye on the upcoming indie games of 2025 and beyond.

<![CDATA[ PUBG Studios' Project Arc is now called PUBG: Blindspot, and the top-down 5v5 tactical shooter will be playable this month thanks to a Steam demo ]]> PUBG Studios' upcoming top-down 5v5 tactical shooter, formerly known as Project Arc, has now been given an official name, and you'll be able to try it out yourself when it gets a free Steam demo this month just ahead of Steam Next Fest.

Project Arc is now called PUBG: Blindspot, a name which was chosen to reference the shooter's "core gameplay elements" as well as design philosophy. Namely, players use "real-time shared vision" with their teammates, so what you can (and can't) see will play a large part in your strategies.

The Steam demo is set to go live on February 20 at 8pm PT (that's 11pm ET, or February 21 at 4am GMT), allowing us to get our hands on 10 different playable characters – each complete with unique weapons and "special tools" at their disposal. In total, there'll be seven different maps to try out – three of those are team deathmatch maps, while the other four are demolition mission maps. You can take a look at a demolition mission in action in the latest trailer below to get a flavor of what's to come.

GamesRadar+'s Andrew Brown had the chance to go hands-on with PUBG: Blindspot last year (when it was still known as Project Arc), and had some very positive things to say about it, although noted that the deathmatch mode was "absolute carnage," and didn't leave quite as good an impression as the Rainbow Six Siege-like standard mode. "Its top-down perspective emphasizes the strategic thinking that draws me to games like Counter-Strike in the first place, with less weight on quick reaction speeds and accuracy," he wrote about the latter.

It's not long now until everyone is able to try PUBG: Blindspot out for themselves, anyway. There's still no word on the full game's release date, so be sure to make the most of the upcoming demo.

<![CDATA[ Ralph Macchio talks “paying the legacy forward” in the new Karate Kid movie: “It’s been the gift that keeps on giving” ]]> Ralph Macchio might be saying goodbye to Cobra Kai, but he's ready for the next era of the Karate Kid franchise.

"Throughout the Cobra Kai series, there have been those mentor moments, those parenting moments. So paying the legacy forward is kind of part of what Daniel LaRusso does now as an adult and will do in the Karate Kid Legends film when that comes out, the end of May," Macchio tells GamesRadar+. "Really excited about that other chapter within the grand universe of sharing stories. But for Cobra Kai, where my focus is now, it was about landing that plane in that, you know, big, winning way and I'm super proud of that."

The series, which takes place some 40 years later after the first Karate Kid film, hit YouTube Red in 2018 before getting picked up by Netflix and turned into one of the streaming giant's biggest hits. Macchio reprises his role as Daniel LaRusso, one of pop culture's most beloved underdogs, with William Zabka returning as bully-turned-hero Johnny Lawrence. In the show, the two decades-long enemies run two competing karate dojos - and are training the next generation of teen competitors.

The last five episodes of Cobra Kai are set to air mid-February, putting an end to Daniel and Johnny's six-season adventure. A new Karate Kid movie, however, is set to arrive this May - which sees Daniel living in Okinawa some three years after the events of Cobra Kai.

In the new movie, Daniel once again takes on the role of sensei, this time joining Jackie Chan - who reprises his role from the Jaden Smith-starring Karate Kid reboot - in training the next karate kid (Ben Wang, who was cast via a worldwide talent search). In a way, Macchio is stepping into the shoes of Mr. Miyagi, played by the late Pat Morita, who Macchio says would've been immensely proud of Cobra Kai and where the franchise is today.

"I think he would've been first in line with and bought popcorn for everybody. I really do. His character - it's always been super important to me that it was woven into the Cobra Kai series. That was day one when this was pitched to me. I said, I need that to not be forgotten because without that, none of this exists, meaning that character of Miyagi and that performance by him. So I enjoy honoring those who are no longer with us that helped, create this franchise."

Continues Macchio: "And I feel, I guess I would say a responsibility, but I take pride in making sure, or at least letting my voice be heard, of the importance of that in honor of them. I'd like to believe he'd be proud of me for that part."

Cobra Kai season 6 part 3 hits Netflix on February 13. Karate Kid Legends hits theaters on May 30. For more, check out our lists of the best Netflix movies and the best Netflix shows to stream right now.

<![CDATA[ Final Fantasy 14 gets its biggest post-Dawntrail patch yet in 7.2 next month, adding a new Savage tier, trials, Phantom Jobs, Cosmic Exploration, and more ]]> New content is coming to Final Fantasy 14 next month in the form of patch 7.2, and it brings even more to the MMORPG and its Dawntrail expansion than patch 7.1 – including unique jobs, hardcore content, an interstellar activity designed for crafters, and more.

Revealing as much during the most recent live letter stream from Square Enix, Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida walks fans through some of the content releasing with patch 7.2 in late March. Dubbed "Seekers of Eternity," the patch brings new main scenario quests continuing the post-Dawntrail story as well as duties to run alongside them. For more story-focused or casual players, there's The Underkeep dungeon.

The Arcadion: Cruiserweight Tier is coming, too, with four new Normal raids and Savage variants. Another trial is also joining the plethora of patch 7.2 duties in both its Normal and Extreme form, titled Recollection. As for content geared toward more dedicated fans of crafting and gathering, Cosmic Exploration is coming with Seekers of Eternity – and it's massive. Think the Diadem or Island Sanctuary, but if they were set among the uncharted stars.

Fans of instances like Eureka and The Bozjan Southern Front are eating good this patch, too, thanks to the addition of the Occult Crescent. With large-scale boss battles and 48-player raids, it sounds downright chaotic – but it's the jobs available within the Occult Crescent that truly set it apart. Known as Phantom Jobs, these unique mix-and-match classes offer new abilities on top of the ones already granted by normal jobs.

It's a lot of content coming at once, and this doesn't even cover it all. According to Yoshi-P, the patch will also address community concerns like the backend exploit third-party tools were taking advantage of. You can watch the full stream for more information if you're as excited as I am to hop into 7.2 once it's here, but it's important to note that the stream is in Japanese and hasn't yet been translated into English.

<![CDATA[ Sigourney Weaver was "delighted" to join the Star Wars franchise but says Grogu was the whole reason she signed on for The Mandalorian & Grogu: "He's a little badass" ]]> Sigourney Weaver says she never really thought about joining the Star Wars franchise, but when she was offered a role in the upcoming movie The Mandalorian & Grogu, there was one teeny tiny thing that made her sign on: Baby Yoda.

"I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie," Weaver tells GamesRadar+. "And he's a little badass too. It's going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he's grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series."

As Weaver did not appear in The Mandalorian series, we still don't know for sure who her character is, although it has been reported that Weaver is playing a New Republic Colonel Bishop in the film. When asked for more on her mysterious role, Weaver replies, "I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority. And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens."

With so much experience working on big sci-fi franchises like Alien and Avatar, it is surprising that Weaver didn't join the galaxy far, far away sooner. "I admire [Star Wars], but I don't sit around wishing I was in another franchise, because I've been so lucky to be in some wonderful ones," Weaver adds. "But at the time, when I was offered it, I was delighted. I'm a great fan of John Favreau. I was already a great fan of The Mandalorian."

Directed and written by Jon Favreau, the movie welcomes back Pedro Pascal as bounty hunter Din Djarin who embarks on an exciting new adventure with his apprentice Grogu. The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theatres on May 2026.

But before Weaver makes her big Star Wars debut, the Ghostbusters actor stars in Scott Derrickson’s genre-bending horror slash romance movie The Gorge. The movie follows two highly-trained operatives (Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy) as they are appointed to guard opposite watchtowers overlooking a misty and mysterious gorge, "protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within," reads the synopsis from Apple TV Plus.

The Gorge premieres globally on Apple TV Plus on Friday, February 14, 2025. For more, check out our list of the best sci-fi movies, or keep up with upcoming Star Wars movies and shows heading your way.

<![CDATA[ Thanks to "overwhelming demand," Attack on Titan's movie release has been extended ]]> If you're desperate to see Attack on Titan: The Last Attack in theaters, then the good news is you're getting another chance if you're in the US or Canada.

"Due to overwhelming demand, Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK screenings in the US & Canada have been EXTENDED! More chances to experience the epic conclusion on the big screen – don't miss out!" reads a post on Attack on Titan's Twitter account.

It was announced back in December that the movie would be getting a wide theatrical release in multiple territories, including the US, UK, and other European countries like France and Spain.

The Last Attack debuted in Japan on November 8, while the original two episodes that make up the finale were released back in 2023. But, the movie is slightly different, with a new post-credits scene and updated visuals.

"After venturing beyond the walls and separated from his comrades, Eren finds himself inspired by this new truth and plots the 'Rumbling,' a terrifying plan to eradicate every living thing in the world," reads the movie's synopsis. "With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, a motley crew of Eren's former comrades and enemies scramble to halt his deadly mission. The only question is, can they stop him?"

The Last Attack is released in the US on February 10 and in the UK on February 26.

<![CDATA[ 3 years since reveal, open-world Wonder Woman game from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor devs reportedly $100 million in the hole and struggling with tech and leadership ]]> Over three years since its reveal, the mysterious Wonder Woman game from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor dev Monolith Productions is apparently still years away from its release, if it ever happens at all, as it's reportedly been facing issues behind the scenes.

In a new report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, it's claimed that – according to anonymous individuals familiar with the situation – the devs are struggling to bring the project together, despite the fact that $100 million has apparently been spent on it. Reportedly, the game – which was pitched as being a single-player, open-world action game at its reveal during The Game Awards 2021 – switched directors early last year, at which point it was also rebooted.

According to the report, while an early version of the Wonder Woman game included a reimagining of the Nemesis system seen in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor – allowing the titular hero to go about befriending her foes – we shouldn't expect it in a final release. It's claimed that Monolith Productions scrapped that idea, and is instead focusing on making a regular ol' action-adventure title.

Regardless of what mechanics the game is or isn't expected to include, it sounds like the biggest concern right now might be on whether it actually releases in the first place. It's reported that the changes in leadership, combined with problems related to the game's tech, are leaving its future uncertain.

Either way, there's no doubt that Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns Monolith Productions, will be hoping for the best from Wonder Woman. It's not been having a fantastic time with its games recently, with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League struggling last year, and its fighting game MultiVersus set to shut down just a year after it was brought back.

We haven't seen the open-world Wonder Woman game for 3 years as it was reportedly "literally nothing" when WB Games announced it.

<![CDATA[ After Suicide Squad's $200 million flop, Rocksteady's reportedly back to working on the Batman games that made it a household name ]]> Rocksteady is reportedly making what it arguably should have been all along: another single-player game or, more specifically, another single-player Batman game.

The famed studio behind beloved superhero romps Batman: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight has had a turbulent few years. Developers were seemingly stuck in development hell while working on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League for seven years, a live-service looter shooter that didn't play to the team's strengths, was mired in behind-the-scenes turmoil, and was ultimately too late to the trend to make much money. Publisher WB Games had attributed a $200 million loss to the game.

Bloomberg now reports that Rocksteady is pivoting back to what made it a household name in the first place, citing anonymous sources familiar with the studio's plans. Rocksteady is allegedly "looking to return" to single-player Batman, though the game is years away from launching right now. It's also unclear if the project will be a continuation of its existing Arkham universe or if it'll exist in a different canon. I imagine the events of Suicide Squad, which were weirdly reversed in a comic-strip-style post-launch ending, might make the latter a more attractive proposition. (Batman Beyond might be cool!)

The change in direction could be down to several factors. Parent company Warner Bros. Discovery announced that head of WB Games David Haddad, who was in charge of the division throughout its live-service push, was exiting the company. Fellow online hopefuls, like Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and soon-to-be-shutdown MultiVersus, also underperformed. In fact, one of the publisher's only purely single-player games in recent years came from Hogwarts Legacy, which has sold a whopping over 30 million copies so far.

Whatever Rocksteady's cooking up next won't have the involvement of studio founders Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker, who left late into Suicide Squad's development and quietly launched a new company called Hundred Star Games.

While we wait, don’t miss a single exciting release with our new games of 2025 and beyond release calendar.

<![CDATA[ Fallout's Walton Goggins isn't the only one who racked up a huge bill shooting The White Lotus season 3, but star Michelle Monaghan blames her kids: "How many Kit-Kats can you eat?" ]]> The White Lotus season 3 is nearly here and, this time around, we visit beautiful Thailand as yet another group of guests have quite the vacation.

With the entire cast and crew staying in a luxury hotel in a gorgeous country, it's no surprise that it's an incredible filming experience. However, it turns out that it is quite the expensive one too if you aren't careful...

Last year Fallout star Walton Goggins, who plays the grumbling Rick this season, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he "started laughing" as soon as he received his hotel bill due to the sheer size of it.

And he isn't the only one, as co-star Michelle Monaghan, who portrays actress Jaclyn, tells GamesRadar+: "I was right behind him. My kids came to visit me and I blame them! I was like, 'how many Kit-Kats can you eat? I mean, seriously!'"

Despite the fact Monaghan's kids put plenty of charges on her hotel bill, the star says that it was totally worth it as she has never had a filming experience quite like it. As she explains, that's due to the intimate nature of the shoot as well as the fact that they got a chance to explore Thailand.

Monaghan explains: "This is obviously such a unique experience and way of working, and it's what makes The White Lotus The White Lotus, you really are in The White Lotus bubble. And it was so special to be in that bubble, in such a beautiful country and with such a wonderful cast. I mean, we all got along.

"We had a lot of fun together, but because it was such a big cast as well, we had a lot of downtime. So we got to explore a lot of Thailand and really immerse ourselves in the culture. The overall experience was so immersive, unlike anything I've ever creatively experienced."

The White Lotus season 3 begins on Max on February 16 in the US and February 17 in the UK on Sky. For more, check out our guides to the best HBO shows and the best HBO movies.

<![CDATA[ Monster Hunter Wilds' nightmarish low-poly bug is back for its second beta, but don't be too surprised - Capcom said improvements wouldn't show until launch ]]> Monster Hunter Wilds second open beta is well underway, but players are running into a familiar and sometimes hilariously quirky bug leftover from the first beta test.

During the first open beta for Capcom's big beast-slaying, fast fashion-crafting blockbuster, players struggled with all types of technical issues, from performance dips and stuttering to a graphics bug that would turn the game's usually handsome characters into nightmarish, polygonal blobs that'd even scare N64 NPCs. Funnily enough, some monsters were also affected and became giant, non-descript blobs.

Well, that pesky bug has reared its head once again. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise, though. Even at the time, Capcom admitted the beta build was outdated and said the in-development game was "already in a more improved state." Since then, the developers have only continued to hammer away at known issues, though the publisher had already confirmed that such improvements wouldn't be present in the second beta as the team were busy on Monster Hunter Wilds' final release, coming in just a few weeks.

Still, I'm not-so-secretly happy that the cursed bug is back because, like, just look at some of the screenshots below. How many big-budgets games look like that anymore!? It's glorious and ugly and the icing on the cake is how damn grumpy the Palicos look.

I wanted to share the silly graphical issue from r/MHWilds
My game looks good from r/MHWilds

It's not just humans and our feline friends who are being transformed into unsightly shapes. The bug is also laying claim to the titular monsters. The one below is some kind of ominous entity, and I really hope Capcom actually releases a post-launch enemy with a similar design as some sort of homage.

Polygon hunter: Wilds from r/MHWilds

If the wonky textures are really getting on your nerves, don't worry too much. Capcom's improvements will be in Monster Hunter Wilds' retail release, coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 28.

<![CDATA[ Severance star Adam Scott to lead new film from director of one of the highest-rated horror movies of 2024 ]]> Adam Scott may be busy facing off against shady office types in hit Apple TV Plus series Severance right now, but he'll soon have a bigger threat to fight in writer-director Damian McCarthy's new horror movie: witches.

Having recently signed up for the lead role, as revealed by Variety, Scott is gearing up to play a horror novelist in supernatural chiller Hokum; a Stephen King-type who travels to rural Ireland to scatter his parents' ashes – oblivious to the fact that the inn he's booked to stay at is supposedly haunted by an ancient enchantress. Peter Coonan (Bad Sisters) and David Wilmot (Bodkin) round out the supporting cast.

Filming is set to kick off on location in late February, marking the fifth collaboration between Image Nation and Spooky Pictures. Their previous outings include creepy thriller Watcher and found footage flick Late Night with the Devil. Tailored Films, the production company behind The Apprentice and Bring Them Down, is also on board.

"With Adam's talent and charisma and Damian’s unique direction, this is another opportunity for us to push boundaries in the horror genre and continue to make our mark in the international market," producer Ben Ross said in a statement.

Oddity

Over the last five years, McCarthy has made a name for himself in the genre space, having wowed audiences with Caveat (2020) and 2024's Oddity, which debuted to a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Both films explore psychological trauma and isolation as they see their protagonists – an amnesiac driver and a blind medium – hole up somewhere remote, only to become convinced they're sharing their surroundings with the conduit of a malevolent entity; a toy rabbit and wooden mannequin, respectively. Though McCarthy's works tend to have a twist or a sting in their tail...

While he's perhaps best known for his more comedic roles in Step Brothers and Parks and Recreation, Scott is no stranger to horror, either, having appeared in titles such as Piranha 3D, Krampus, and Little Evil. His second-ever role, in fact, was in Hellraiser: Bloodline back in 1996.

Hokum has yet to spell out a release date, but we'll be sure to keep you posted. For now, check out our picks of the most exciting upcoming horror movies heading our way.

<![CDATA[ Avatar star Sam Worthington called his James Bond audition "awful" but fans disagree after it leaks online ]]> Sam Worthington was among the stars auditioning for James Bond back in 2005, and his screen test has now been released online. Shared by a YouTube channel alongside Henry Cavill's ill-fated Bond audition and The Boys actor Antony Starr's take on 007, the new video sees Worthington tackle some dialogue from Goldeneye.

In the seven-minute clip, the Avatar actor gives his version of iconic lines like "Martini, shaken not stirred" and "Bond, James Bond" as well as doing a few run-throughs of the same scene. The audition was for the part of the super spy in Casino Royale, when a new Bond took on the mantle from Pierce Brosnan. The role ultimately went to Daniel Craig.

Worthington has previously spoken about auditioning for the role, revealing that he thinks it wasn't his best work. Per ComicBook.com, Worthington recounted the experience on the Australian radio show Fitzy and Wippa back in 2023.

"I did go for Bond. I went and did the audition with Martin Campbell, who ended up directing Casino Royale," he recalled. "You walk in, there’s the girl in the bed, you charm her. I could get the killer of Bond down. I just couldn’t get the charm. I couldn’t charm her. The suit didn’t fit, man."

Worthington then added: "I tried to do a British accent. I did say to them I wanted to wear the white tuxedo like Roger Moore. I wanted to bring back kung fu chops, and they looked at me like I was crazy." He then pointed out: "It was awful. I sounded like Dick Van Dyke from Mary Poppins. I remember Martin going, 'Just do your normal voice, it’s all cool, man.'"

Fans of the star disagree though, with plenty of positive comments on the YouTube video. One wrote: "Really good actually… The best out of them all on here from 2005" while another pointed out: "He has a natural charisma and interesting body language." A third added: "Everyone starts somewhere. Worthington may not have qualified as Bond, but he does demonstrate a lot of good potential."

The same YouTube channel, Ron South, has released screentests for Cavill, Starr, and Pride and Prejudice actor Rupert Friend. According to his YouTube description, he found the tapes in a recycling bin at a movie studio.

<![CDATA[ No one knows for sure if Final Reckoning is Tom Cruise's last ever Mission: Impossible movie, but the director teases the title is "appropriate" ]]> Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning could be Tom Cruise's final outing as Ethan Hunt, though director Christopher McQuarrie is tight-lipped on the possibility for now.

"It is, I hope, the satisfying conclusion to a 30-year story arc," he told Empire magazine. "I'm pretty confident that people are going to feel that the title was appropriate."

Cruise was similarly coy. "You gotta see the movie," he said. "It's a hard thing for me to discuss at the moment, because it really is something that you have to experience."

That's not a clear answer either way, then, but it certainly sounds like this could be Cruise's final time in the Mission: Impossible franchise. "Final" is very final, after all.

One thing we do know, though, is that if Cruise does step away, it's unlikely that his spot would be filled by his Top Gun: Maverick co-star Glen Powell. "My mom would never let me do that," Powell joked of the possibility. "That’s the worst gig in town, everybody knows that. That’s a death trap."

It does indeed sound like the stunts will be huge, too. "I have just finished shooting, I've got one day of pick ups to do. I've seen some of it. It's bananas. It's absolutely bananas," Simon Pegg said of the movie last year. "What he does in this one, it boggles the mind. I think this one is the best one ever. And I'm not just saying that because it's like, 'Oh you've got to say it.'"

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning releases on May 23, 2025. In the meantime, check out our guide to all the most exciting upcoming movies for everything else the year has in store.

<![CDATA[ Square Enix points to Tifa and this $2,600 Nier Automata 2B statue for driving its "strong" merch sales - and I need to know how many of you bought it ]]> Square Enix has been selling more and more merchandise based on its games, with the last year proving to be a particularly "strong" one, and the publisher cites Tifa and 2B as big reasons why.

Square Enix just released its financial results for the nine-month period ending on December 31, where it broke down just how much money it made from merch. In the last nine months of 2024, the company cashed 14.8 billion yen (or roughly $97 million), which is a steady jump from its merch sales in the last two financial years over the same period.

So, what's responsible for the spike? Square Enix says it's "mainly driven by strong sales of new character merchandise," and pointed to a trio of "major products," namely, a set of acrylic Dragon Quest stands, a Tifa Lockhart action figure probably bolstered by the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and an exorbitantly-priced 2B statue.

That's no exaggeration, either. The Masterline Deluxe version of Nier: Automata's mascot retails for a whopping $2,600, while the regular old figure costs a marginally more 'affordable' $2,400. In fairness, the three-foot statue is absolutely gorgeous and I'd probably grab it if I ever unlock the IRL infinite money cheat.

"The base includes the support unit 'Pod 042,' as well as many elements that tell the story of the battles of the YoRHa unit, such as parts of the YoRHa heavy armament unit and flight unit, as well as Virtuous Treaty, all of which are presented as a single three-dimensional piece," the item's description reads.

The deluxe version tries to justify the extra $200 with a head part without combat goggles, a right arm with the Virtuous Contract in hand, and a lower body part "in self-destruct mode" - AKA, her iconic outfit all ripped up, and that's probably the reason it seemingly outsold the cheaper version. (Sigh.)

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s PC sales were “fantastic,” analyst says after Steam players put the JRPG atop the US’ best-selling games chart.

<![CDATA[ As if Fallout: London wasn't already big enough, its devs now say the mod's "first DLC is getting closer" with "more surprises" to come ]]> One of the most ambitious Fallout 4 mods ever, Fallout: London, is about to get even bigger as its creators hint that the "first DLC is getting closer" – with "some more surprises" yet to come, too.

The first DLC was discussed in December when Team Folon revealed it would "feature both new content and previously cut content that we're working hard to restore," with not much else said regarding the release since. Dubbed "Rabbit & Pork," the DLC might be just around the corner now, as Team Folon states in a recent post(spotted by VG247) that "big things are coming," with the exciting launch "getting closer" and devs "working non-stop."

That's not all, though – it sounds like there's more to come, too, as Team Folon hints toward "some more surprises" and says there are "exciting times ahead." The DLC is only the first of three according to an older announcement from the modders, featuring a sneak peek at each one's planned title. There's Rabbit & Pork, Last Orders, and the New Vegas-esque Wildcard to look forward to – as if Fallout: London wasn't big enough already.

Fallout: London first came to fruition in 2019, with its creators at Team Folon aiming to make a total conversion mod set in England's capital for Bethesda's 2015 action RPG. The mod finally launched this past summer, boasting hours of new content, a massive map, and talent from Baldur's Gate 3. Since then, Fallout: London has received over 500,000 downloads, with Team Folon even revealing plans to "launch our own indie games company."

Ambitious Fallout mod project aiming to recreate Fallout 1 inside Fallout 4 calls it quits, suspending the project but making it clear that it's not Bethesda's fault
